VIAS Constant Open Idea

Hey, I was thinking of this concept, and wanted to know some of ur guys imput. I was think about how the VIAS flapper valve opens at 5000 rpm when the selinoid gets power which helps the car generate more power.

I was wondering if there is some way i know major modifications will be needed to either give constant power to the selinoid so it keeps the vias open?

Or is there a way to weld it open, causing the car to generate the extra power all the time and not just a some of the time.

Dumb idea. You will lose low end torque if you leave it open all of the time. Why do you think it only opens after 5k rpm?

Blackbirdvq did that and he said he lost a considerable amount of tq. Also madmax or something dyno'd 222 whp but lost a lot of tq which was counterproductive.

if you wanted you could get a V AFC or something and i think set when the solenoid opens (kind of tricks it) but like mtrai said, you lose low end. You gotta know how it works. I'm not 100% sure on detail but i believe it makes something wider in the engine so air or whatnot passes through faster. I'm guessing with minimal rpm, somethings not working fast enough and the wide opening causes a negative effect on the engine...thus why the wrong spot by even 100 rpm can probably cause a 3-10 hp decrease

Just remove the power valve, completely.

Not easy, or for the novice, search is a good friend of mine, and yours too.

Or you could just use a zip tie to hold the actuator lever and drive around to see if you like it that way.

No need for considerable modifications

Holding it open is stupid. Removing it completely would be the better thing to do, if you're hell-bent on doing this.

The VIAS is part of the two-stage intake plenum. With VIAS closed, air travels through six long runners that snake up the top of the intake plenum, and only through them.
With VIAS open, in addition to air travelling through those six runners, air travels through six newly-opened ports on the inside of the plenum which open up a "surge tank", providing extra airflow (and a shorter path from the throttle inlet to the lower intake manifold ports)

Nissan engineered the plenum to give good low-end/midrange torque with the VIAS closed, and good high-end torque with the VIAS open.
One may ask, what about mods? Since mods change the airflow assumptions used in the engineering of those parts, it is conceivable that modifying the VIAS could squeeze a little extra power. The only thing I could imagine doing is moving the VIAS switchover point back a little. How far, one would have to experiment to find out.

mine is removed but there are plenty of ways to combat the torque loss. the pull above 5k is wonderful. udp, light wheels, bumping fpr then backing it out with an afc and using shorter belt to bypass ac compressor are a few of the ways i fight it. if my fuel pump would have been up to the task, i could have pulled 200whp sae with my 3.0 auto all motor with the power valve removed. i hit 194sae and 200std. for my driving style it is perfect. i only need the power when im wot and last i checked, my rpms were higher at wide open.
