I was locked out with the engine running!
I started my Max this morning and put the AC on. I moved my wife's car out of the way, and when I went to get in the doors were locked! This is the second time this happened; luckily my wife was in the car the last time. The dealer says this is NOT normal, but they have no idea what to do. Has anyone had this problem? What was the cure?

hmm... lucky for you that this happened at home
I got locked out once (while going to close the garage), but just assumed that i must've accidentally hit a switch somewhere along the line... I was home, so I ran inside, got another key, and never gave it another thought....
Hmm.. if it happens again, maybe it's worth some investigation. (this would really suck major goat nads if it happened somewhere far from home... or on a date!!!)
Perhaps it's a problem with the car, and not myself.. (still trying to decide whether this is a good or bad thing).. Good luck trying to convince the dealer that the "CAR locked you out"... If they fail to convince you that it's undoubtedly your fault in some major and expensive way, then they will give you the BS about not being able to replicate the prob. or the car being designed that way...

I think...
since there is no auto lock feature, that the lock does not fully retract. Ever noticed that if the lock is partially engaged, the door isnt locked but you cant open it either.
well, what I'm saying is the lock tab on the door is about half way. when you lift the handle, it locks. I dont think its an electronics problem. I think it has more to do with lubrication of the lock actuator. OR lack there of.
Now, I actually crack the window anytime I exit the car with it running.
btw... tomz, I went to your site and got some of those vids.. I laughed so hard. "I tell you Trebeck, I will not pay this fine levied against me" oh and Turd Ferguson.. gawd! thanks.. funny stuff.

...My favorites include Shawn Connery's category selections
"**** Bum Cover" (an album cover)
"The ***** Mightier" (The pen is mightier)
"The Rapists" (therapists)
"Famous *******" (famous titles)
I also liked
"Colors that end in urple"
"Famous muppet frogs"
"will this hurt if you put it in your mouth"
hehe.. jolly good stuff...

PS.. my thoughts were that it might be something mechanical as well... however, I was also fairly certain that I unlocked all of the doors simultaneously when opening the car (as a matter of habbit)... So a mechanical problem with the door latch (or me simply hitting the mechanical lever while opening the door) would not account for ALL the doors being closed... Either way, I have no concerete evidence. Since the issue hasn't come up again, I'm simply going to ignore it until I get locked out at the most inopportune moment..

I wonder if it is a feature that is already in the Max but just not normally activated. I say that because after I installed an aftermarket alarm to my Max, the doors automatically lock if the doors close first and then you start the engine. It doesn't do it when the doors are open. Personally, it's convenient for me because I often forget to lock the door. Could it be?
Thanks for the replies
Thanks everyone for your inputs. I can say that my doors were locked fully when I looked in the window. The dealer said it should not have happened, but there is nothing they can do unless they experience it themselves. What else is new. I now have keys throughout the house "just in case". I guess I'll just have to wait until my butt is actually in the seat from now on. Leather feels sooooo good at 100+ degrees in Columbus, MS! Sizzle, sizzle!
I have never had this happen in two years, sounds like a problem. For years I have had one of those "quick-release" keychains and I put the ignition key alone on one end. This way I can start the car, lock it, and go inside while it warms up (midwest winters). I know it's a simple idea but it would keep you from getting locked out again. My Pathfinder will unlock the doors if the key is in the ignition and you try to lock it, which is good but it's nice to be able to start it, lock it, and go in for a minute.
