Do you guys hear a hydraulic like "pssshhh" when you first start driving?

Do you guys hear a hydraulic like "pssshhh" when you first start driving?

I've noticed since day 1 of owning my car that upon first driving the car i.e. reverse out of a parking space > D > start to drive, I will hear a "pssshhh" sound. It is not a BOV sound , but more of a hydraulic like. Anyone know what this is?

Ya, I figured it was the power steering, but is it suppose to be audible?

I hear the same thing, and i believe I read somewhere that our abs system does a quick test. I think that might be the noise.

Yea, its probably just releasing excess pressure. Kinda like when buses bleed their brakes of air when they park it for a while.

I've got a noise that sounds kind of like that. It's something engine related though I think. Only happens when at 900rpm. Hear it when going past 900rpm, than again when the engine falls back below 900rpm.

I'm getting a kind of whistle when at low rpms when in 'D'rive (2002 auto.) I can only hear it after I've gotten moving from a standstill i.e. stoplights/signs. It goes away once I get moving. I believe it only occurs when I'm at ~8-1000 rpms, but probably not any higher 1k. I'm presuming it's nothing to worry about. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

edit: Also, i don't remember having heard it when it was warmer out. I'm in VA, and it's been calling for snow lately so its fairly cold out

It's ABS self-testing just like James said. It's even documented in your manual.
