how to replace speakers in doors?

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I searched the faq and everytime I clicked on a link for stereo and speaker how to's they all said page not found. I have a blown speaker on my driver's side and I don't want to break anything trying to take it apart. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

never thought about that. I have a 100k warranty. I guess it couldn't hurt to ask, right? Thanks for the idea!

Are you sure it's the speaker and not the common Headunit problem? Does the speaker work when the radio is on, but not when a CD is playing.

If the speaker works with the radio, but not the CD, it's your Headunit, which is a common problem with 02 Maximas (I have the same HU problem, and I bang on the side of it with the outside of my closed fist to temporarily fix the problem).

Oftentimes replacing it with another OEM HU doesn't help, and whole different HU will fix the problem.

To remove the door you have to remove one screw. It is located in the ashtray (or whatever you call it) right below the window switch. There is a little tab that you have to pop off with a flat head, then remove the screw with a phillips. Then run your fingers along the bottom of the door skin. You'll find a hole or gap, run a screw driver or something else along that and the door should start to pop off. You'll need to then disconnect the plugs for the window and lock.

There is also one more screw on the front part of the door panel it has a cap covering it. pop that off then there is a phillips screw. then like he said pop the clips out and disconnect the wires.

Speaking of door speakers. Does anybody know if they make speaker harnesses for our cars? Crutchfield said they don't and you'll have to cut the wires....

Yes, Crutchfield does. That is where I purchased mine. But, this was like 3 years or so. Maybe, they discontinued that. I know if you purchase any car stereos from them, they'll send you a kit for free.

the kit works for sh$t. I bought a pair of fronts off them and the kit didn't line up to the holes. Instead, because the speaker was fried anyway, I tore out the cone and gutted the housing and mounted the speaker to what was left. Once I figured out how to do that, it was pretty easy.

Yeah, the speaker kit does $uck. I had made my own mounting bracket. But, I was talking more on the lines of the speaker wire harness. Crutchfield should have an adapter without us splicing the wires.

1) Remove the plastic cap from the hand hold (what you use to close the door when you are in the car) exposing a Phillips screw. Remove the screw then remove that hand hold.

2) Using a butter knife or similar knife with a rounded blunt edge, wrap that in some paper towel and slide it under the door handle finisher (the very outer part that goes all the way around the door handle.) There are two clips on the top and two on bottom and one on one side.

3) Using a butter knife or similar knife with a rounded blunt edge, wrap that in some paper towel and slide it under the power window finisher and lift up. Start at the top and come to the bottom on the right side. You should be able to lift that straight up. Disconnect the relays for the power windows and door locks.

4) There also is a finisher on the far right of the door, the part that is hidden when you close the door. Pop that off and remove the Phillips screw hiding there.

5) Feel under the door for the gap, and pull that TOWARD you. Then lift it slightly upward to remove the door trim.

Follow this...this will get the door off, if your careful, without breaking anything. Make sure you take your time on step #2. It's very important that you go slow and patient or you will crack the trim around the door handle and lock as many before you have already. Apply pressure away from the handle underneath the pivot point on it and above it to remove succesfully. Take your time.

you don't need any wire harness for the speakers, I think its a waste of money

strip the connector and use a 9v battery and lead out 2 wires from the pos and neg

tap it into the stripped wires of your speaker wire.

put the negative to one of the wire and positive to the other

look at the speaker, when it is poppin if its popping in, then its the wrong way.....meaning whatever wire the negative side from the battery is to is the wire for the postive wire from the speaker

sounds confusing? lemme know...

Maybe its the pseudo-celebrity status because everyone knows what you're doing....Or maybe im rambling because its so bloody early in the morning.

Things I don't know:
(1) How do defeat ground noise in the AltoMobile Drive 30
(2) Why Nilesh is teh pseudo-hater.

Thanks guys for all the info. My factory hu won't eject my cd now, so I've been listening to lil wayne for the past few weeks. I was gonna try to fix it, but I'm just gonna use it as an excuse to buy myself a new hu for christmas. Merry Christmas to ME! p.s. I know the speaker's blown cuz it's sounds like crap whether the cd is on or the radio.

You guys went all over the place with this thread. From how to remove the door panels to installing MDF rings and proper wiring.

Here's what you need to remove the door panels.
