How badly should a 5th gen automatic maxima be able to beat an automatic 1991 integra LS in a race?

Here are some #'s

1991 Acura Integra LS
Horsepower: 130 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 121 ft-lbs. @ 5000 rpm
Weight: 2560 lbs.

I would say that it shouldn't give you too much trouble.

My sister in law has one that she bought 2nd hand. It may have a non-stock exhaust. My maxima, which I suspect is underperforming, can beat it to 100kph, but not by much. I drove it myself and it felt horrible to drive after my max. From 60-80kph, the integra beats me however...

Are you shifting manually, or driving with it in drive? Shifting manually will help your performance numbers.

My goal at this point is not to eke every last bit of power out of the engine but to perform at a level one would expect from the average maxima. As such, I am just keeping it in D and accelerating (as with the integra). I am aware you can shift manually and have done it before but since the manual says not to do that I was a little worried about doing it too often. I am also keeping traction control and OD on.

Hmmm

As a general rule whenever I am trying to race I turn to overdrive and traction control off, I don't know if it helps, but I prefer them turned off.

Also, shifting the auto will make use of your peak horsepower (@6400 RPM), whereas letting the auto shift will shift at about 5900 RPM. However, while there will be a difference in acceleration doing that, your car should still feel reasonably fast.

The best way to figure out if it is performing how it should be would be to do some timed runs 0-60 (100 kph?) or 1/4 mile, that will give you a better idea of how it performs compared to other stock Maximas.

My personal efforts in this regard are what started my current concern with underperformance. I've been discussing it in another thread recently started by bramirez regarding 0-60 times. Using my stopwatch I have been getting 9-10 second 0-100kph times and thought that was way too slow. I'm taking it in to the dealer this Friday, hopefully, and will have them look into it.

That's a good idea...

The more I think about it, a 91 Integra LS Auto should not be able to keep up with your Maxima, and I just noticed there was another thread talking about AE acceleration times. Hopefully, the dealer will have some insight.

Honestly when I saw the thread topic I laughed a bit. Then I read through and I am a bit embarrassed for the board I hate to say this but you must be having problems with your car? If you are having problems with a 1991 (pipe or no pipe) Acura LS or even think of you might have problems with a 1991 Acura LS then do yourself a favor and never race your car! A 5spd Max stock should be able to beat a new GSR and hang with a Type-R. With some basic bolt ons you could probably beat a Type-R (driving skills will decide). Gimme a break a 1991 Acura LS a 5pd would destroy it and your Auto should smoke it no prob!

That's what I figured. I hope I'm not embarrassing the board by harping on this, but I'm just trying to get as much information as possible before taking my car in to the dealer. In my brief discussion with the service guy I was already getting the impression that they'll just brush it off. I'll maybe lay low for a while and report back as to what happens with the dealership. My apologies to anyone who wishes my slow-a$$ maxima would just go away, but hey, have a little empathy....feel my pain.

wouldn't a 91 ls be a non-vtec inline 4?

I would think that would be no problem for a Max...

WE have a 91 Integra GS Automatic (same LS engine(no vtec)). That car is a dog, it's so slow. 1st gear isn't bad, but after 2nd you will KILL!!! that Ls integra. Trust me, it's a definate kill.
