03 stock antenna sucks...any functional aftermarket ones?

Ok I've had the same radio in three cars, pioneer 940mp. A 2002 Subaru, a 2000 Maxima, and now a 2003 Maxima. The reception was always fine in the Subaru (it has a regular antenna), but it has sucked in both maximas...I'm guessing because of the stock antenna. I've read some mixed reports on these forums about some people having problems with them. Are there any good antennas/amplifiers to boost fm/am reception? And yes everything is hooked up correctly, harness, antenna adapter etc...Thanks in advance.

Our cars have an antenna amplifier and I think that it is mostly a prob with the head unit. I installed an aftermarket hu and the reception is better. Just get sirius and forget fm/am radio.

The antenna is built into the glass, and I wonder how it can be replaced. I don't listen to the radio much, only for the news, in which case, the AM reception seems okay, but not great. In FM mode, the heavy bass generated by the HU rattles the subwoofer, which is highly intrusive and annoying. My 4th gen Max's Bose HU and speakers are much better. Nissan got cheap and gave us inferior product.

As far as the deck it's perfectly fine, I had it checked out before installing it in my new car, and its a 700 dollar deck...the quality is top notch. I do listen to mp3's but constantly changing cd's is annoying. I know where the antenna is, I was wondering if there was any kind of functional antenna or aftermarket amplifier I could hook up. And before someone asks the question or makes the comment, the deck is XM ready but I'm not paying for radio. Just looking for a good antenna. It's suprising how even though people on this forum have made plenty of posts regarding poor reception, almost everyone tries to blame it on everything else...as if maxima's are such good cars that nothing in them is less than perfect. I like maxima's too but my antenna is crap...thanks for the input.

Well here is a link to you what you need then:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Z36lSRq...50&I=12044UA60

Try it out and see if it works because it looks like you are going to get answers like listen to mp3 or sat radio becuase that is what most of us have done sine regular radio sucks. So try out a signal booster and tell us if it works.

Thanks. For only 14.99, and a solid return policy I might give it a try with a static filter.

From the service manual it looks like the ant amp is located behind the back right plastic cover:
Here is a pic:

i just took out my HU and sent it out for repairs, put the sock HU back in and the radio works fine, i think its a design with our antennas, is there a signal booster inside the stock HU?

My reception with my stock HU was perfect. As soon as I got a Pioneer HU things got bad. I originally thought it was due to a bad install @Best Buy but my friend checked all the wiring and he said it was fine. I may go back to the stock HU just so I can have decent reception once again.

Best option is IMO is to leave all stock stereo equipment and dynamat the rear deck... check housecor's site if you need help.

I threw in a XACT Visor Sirius satellite radio piece... no bigger than a radar detector and it works great with a tape adapter.

Just my 2 cents...

Antenna amplifiers like this suck. They just amplify the static. The main problem is the fact that we don't have a mast antenna. My '94 had both the mast antenna and the back glass antenna. Nissan called it FM Diversity and it worked great. When I put in a JVC HU and couldn't use both antennas anymore the reception suffered.

If you add a solid mast antenna you will have the quality reception you desire.

you can get an aftermarket antenna in many car audio shops. just make sure it has the same plug as your headuint uses. i think most of them are standard now. you can mout it on your rear deck, or anywere else in the car. the bonus about picking one up in a retail audio store, is that u can return it if there are reception problems.
