High Mileage Oil Worth It?????

My 01 Max just turned 80000 and runs great. Is it worth it to invest in Valvoline high mileage oil or am I wasting my money??? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks from freezing cold Cleveland Ohio.......

More of a gimmick thatn anything else.

Been using Castrol syntec since 87k, now at 232.7k .. no problems, no leaks, no burning.

If you have been on a regular oil change schedule I don't think that there would be any need for it. I haven't heard anything good or bad about it though.... if it doesn't cost any more and you feel better about it then go ahead.

At my last oil change, the service manager wanted to put this stuff in my car, since at 30k mi., it was considered high mileage. I thought about it for 2 secs, until he said that it would only cost $30 extra to make my engine last longer, get better fuel economy, and add more power. Well, for $30 it must be good! NOT!

High mileage oils have a few benefits if your car has bad seals and small leaks... Otherwise, it's not worth it. If you have been good about oil changes you probably wouldn't benefit from it. I would definitely recommend changing to a synthetic, unless you have been very forgetful about oil changes.

A word on Catrol, however. Not too long ago, they won a law suit where they can claim their oil to be synthetic even if it is only partly synthetic. This is something they're notorious for doing. (For example, if it's half synthetic, half mineral, they can still claim it's synthetic.) The major oil companies typically don't do that.... Also, it's common knowledge in the motor oil industry that Castrol is #1 in volume because they were the first to aggressively market themselves (and they did a great job of this!), not, unfortunately, because of a superior product.

I use Mobil 1... just my 2 cents

I think those oils are for people that have always gone over 3,000-5,000 mile intervals before 75,000 miles.

That lawsuit was started by companies like Mobil. Now, because Castrol won, Mobil can do the same. I read bobistheoilguy.com to decide which is the best oil for my car. So far, Amsoil, Castrol and Mobil 1 are all in the top slots.
