I finally found the rattling problem i recently started to have. It is occuring at two points.
1) As you can see in the first picture the bracket completely rusted off and the pipe coming off the bpipe is hitting the crossbar.



2)Heres another point where i found the noise to occur. The piping going into the muffler circled in red is hitting the suspension member.



Anyone have any recommendation as to how to have the piping in this picture sit farther from the suspension member?

 

It will cost you a little but the perfect solution for pic #1 is welding the bracket back (you might even use another metal to do this since the original one might be too bad)

For pic # 2
Use (the metal tying things) hm i forgot the name to tighten the rubbers holding the muffler

 

you could take that bracket off, and use hose clamps to tightened the rubbers.

 

Not to be a jacka$$...but I sure am glad I live in the south. I haven't seen that much rust on a car since my dad bought a '56 MG.......

i had it welded for 60 bucks, but mine just broke on the b pipe flange, not in two places. but yeah cheapest is have a garage or somebody weld a piece of tailpipe where its broke instead of replacing the whole thing. well, long term replacing it would probly be better. Why is this such a common problem with our cars, this is the 3rd or 4th thread ive seen in a few weeks about rusty exhausts?

 

I had a bracket holding the exhaust rust and break off as well a few weeks ago..I had Meineke weld it back with a new piece of metal for $20...now it's fine.

 

I think that if you fix the busted hanger in the first picture, the piping will not hang as low as in the 2nd. It seems to me that its related. As a temporary fix, take the cross brace in the first pic off and that'll stop one set of rattles. After you get the hanger welded back on, it'll most likely fix both sets of rattles and you can stick the brace back on. Alternatively, get some washers to make the cross brace lower and get stiffer rubber hangers or hose clamps to hold the exhaust more firmly.

I would not waste the money to re-weld it... they are crappy pipes with crappy welds to start with.

I would remove the brace to stop the rattle for now and save for a SS B-Pipe. If you re-weld it, there is a huge chance it will break off quickly. I can see it being a headache with many temp fixes. Personally I would replace the B-Pipe.

 

And you'll probably get around 5-6 whp to boot with a 2.5" b-pipe.

 

I was going for the purely functional view, you know the BS you tell your Fiancee/wife for replacing it. The performance gain is pure accidental.

 

Just tell her that with more power you can get her places faster and it makes it easier to "merge" in and out of traffic when necessary.

 

Lol, the last thing she wants is for me to go FASTER...

If she could keep three 400lb guys in the back of my car at all time she would. The last thing I tell her is a performace gain. The one thing I have going for me is 9 times out of 10 the stock Nissan stuff is twice as expensive.

 

Hmm, that ss bpipe idea is sounding good. Temporarly I am using a ss wire to hold the pipe form hitting the cross bar. Seems to work for now until i get this done right.

Believe it or not that muffler you see is less than a year old, it was installed after my original one rusted off. Should of gotten a ss cat back instead.
Lesson learned, spend a little extra and less problems in the long run.
Is the Cattman bpipe and midpipe of good quality?

Yes, Cattman is good.... my Frankencar is of good quality too.

Btw, I just took off that cross brace 30 mins ago because mine has started to rattle when the exhaust is cold for some reason.

 

Is that cross bar just there to keep the piping from dragging on the ground if it comes off?
