anyone know where i can get a incabin microair filter for cheap..

most places is like 45..i wonder if there is a generic one, its look very easy to replicate..

no generic one but if you have one alrady you can clean it or go to Home Depot and buy a regular filter and cut it and added to the frame of the old one....... or call DaveB 1-888-254-6060 he can hook you up with a nice price...... your choice

 

chr0nos cut up a 3M Filtrette from Home Depot and claims that it works just fine in place of the cabin microfilter.

 

$45 is pretty decent pricing if u ask me....does that include shipping? I got mine from DaveB for like...$45 shipped...you might be able to score cheaper...but don't expect much cheaper than $40

Like chr0nos said, the battery does not have to be disconnected but you do have to remove the yellow clips for the airbag.

after a few months with the home-depot air filter, i "think" i see more dust on the dashboard that i did with the oem filter. i think because it's narrower than the oem frame, when the car leans in a turn, some dust gets through somehow. the dimentions are the same, and it's tight, but still...
... and we dont HAVE TO HAVE an air filter to breathe! for the last 100 years noboby ever had an air filter in their cars, and we all made it just fine. it's a nice luxury touch, but not nessessary by any means.
this being said, i do like having it because it noticable cuts down on dust and crap inside the cabin comapred to a non-filter equipped car.

 

this is why I need one.. my dash always have dust on it no matter what I do... and it sucks to have you car clean and your dash looks like it is dirty.......

I regularly get from Nissan "Coupons" - actually just codes for "discounts" on service. Usually no big savings and on things that I can do myself anyway.

About a year ago one came advertising in-cabin filters for $25. I ran down to the local dealer with the flyer to order up one. They gave me a big hassle and said that deal was plus installation. I pointed out that nowhere on the flyer did it say anything about installation. He had to get approval from the parts manager (who was not there) since according to him, their cost was higher than that (which may be true on an item with an MSRP of $50+). Came back the next day when the manager was in. Begrudingly, he would sell me one. I wanted to stock up and buy 4 and pointed out that the flyer said nothing about purchase limits. Had to go all the way up to the dealership manager to get that approval (fortunately he was on site.).

Got my 4 for $100. And no, I'm not selling them. Between my '03 SE and girlfriends '02 GLE I've only got two left.

I'm pretty much (weather permitting) a windows down, surnroof open kind of guy and on most nice days run top down with my Miata but still like having the filter in the Max. You don't need the filter in there and in-fact, if you don't change the filter regularly, you should just remove it. As it loads up, it still "filters" the air but general airflow goes down so you won't heat and cool (or defrost) as well. When the air conditioner is on you already get some filtering as dust will stick to the wet cold evaporator surface (and drain out with the condensate) as the air passes through it.
