Key Question

Alright guys got a good question for you. I have an old key from my 2K Maxima, I am getting an auto starter installed (nice Viper 791XV, thanks baby) and I need an extra key. Question is, can I get the old valet key from my 2K reprogrammed to work in the bypass for my 2K3? Also seems smart from a security standpoint because that key will not operate the ignition on my 2K3.

Happy New Year!

It *should* work, but Id ask the dealer. ALthough theyll still rape on the labor.

Another question about a key

I was wondering is there anyway to take and old transponder key and just bypass the immobilizing system all together. I want to be able to start and run my car with cheapo copies. I do have an original key but the key chain broke on it and i dont feel like paying the 80 bucks for a new one right now.

I think anything is possible, but why would you want to do that? Just pay the piper for a new key.

cheap keys:

I got a couple of keys for my 2k from these guys.
The guy at the stealership insistded that they would not work. He wanted me to buy his keys at $90/each. When I asked him to try mine anyway, he said okay, but that he would have to charge me for labor WHEN they did not work.
Of coarse, the keys worked flawlessly.

You could try taking the transponder chip out of one of the keys and permanently locating it in the vicinity of the ignition. Any key would work now (less theft protection) but it would allow autostarter and any cheapie key to work.

Anybody know if DaveB is still around? I would like to call him for the key. I found courtesy has the 20th anniversary edition for 60.
