My CV boots are torn on both sides, I sent a message to Courtesy Nissan, and this is what they sent back:

"the drive shafts are only sold from nissan are new
$533.39 each ,these axles are for a automatic transmission
std trans axles are more money
One or more of the parts you need are currently not in stock.
Generally,
special order parts take 2-3 business days to arrive in our warehouse."

I know these are important, but doesn't that seem kinda high?

 

You can buy the axles off the web (oem or not) for much less money and have them installed by any mechanic. A shop that specializes in axle work can put in rebuilt parts for even less money. Good luck.

BTW, my grandfather was stationed at Alconbury after WWII.

 

It was the only thing that failed the MOT inspection, I do know that more than a grand is unreasonable

shipping to an APO address generally isn't expensive. Buying parts here would be though (Today's exchange rate: $1.77 = 1 British pound)

 

Around $500 is correct for each of the axleshafts, There is no reason to replace the axleshafts once the boots wear out and rip. You only need to replace the boots. They cost $10 a pop at Kragen or Autozone.

Also there are 2 boots on each axleshafts, an inner and outter. It's up to you my friend, to find out which one ripped.

 

About a year ago one of my neighbors came to me with a wrecked min 90's Maxima. He needed a lower control arm, rim/tire, axle, alignment, and some other things...I tried to expalin to him with over 200,000 he should junk it...Convinced he should fix his rusty beat up pile of manure, I told him I would have an estimate to him by the next day.....I called the dealership for the axle and we had quite the chuckle when he told me the price.(I think it was nearly $600.00)...After I asked him for the "real" price, he became a little more serious and told me alot of people who take their cars into the dealership have the service manager order a reman from the parts store because their cheaper. You have a carquest (Formally BIG A's) locally who sells them for $99.99....Replacement is easy...Make sure you call the dealership ahead of time to find out if you have limited slip (chevy term, not sure what Nissans term is) or not. Have your vin handy.
If its just a ripped boot you can usually replace it...If you have a clicking noise, odds are you have probably already torn up the bearings pretty good and your best bet is to replace.

 

I replaced mine after I curbed it. Try your local junk yard, my local dealer charges over 500 big ones! Got my: axle, control arm, spindle, bearing, rotors, calipers, pads, and the little sway bar link for $568.

How long have the boots been torn and is there any grease left in em?

Are the CV joints clicking or grinding?

If they have been torn for a while and are clicking, you'll need to replace the boots and joints. If not, then replacing the boot and regreasing might be enough.

I'll look in to it, I have to find the equivelant to autozone here... Can you believe that they stopped importing Maximas here in '94? But I'll def have to look into the place to go.

YA RLY. $500+ each at the dealer for brand new OEM axleshafts.

 

Depends on ..AutoZone or raxles are much cheaper, and the OEM is not the same price for www.pinnalcenissan.com
