Finally AE'd the Headlights...

I finally AE'd the headlights and while I was at it, I re-finished the lens since they were beaten to crap and were getting yellow and hazy.

I used 800g, 1500g and 2000g sandpaper to re-finish the lens and followed up with a few applications of Meguiares PlastX.

Also, from the writeup on how to do the AE mod, they said to use water to rub off the chrome from the plastic piece

It works but it is still a PIA, I used the PlastX and it came right off and it does not hurt the black Plastic under the chrome.

Before pics (PS- thats also after an application of PlastX):

Nice work man. I'm suprised you hadn't already done this.

I would have, but I was worried I would F* them up and my car is a daily driver. Since I moved to NYC, the car is sitting upstate so I had a week and a half before I need to drive it again. Luckily it went well and no need for new headlights.

Looks great! Hey I have a question for you, you know that little reflector thing that covers the H4 bulb, can you remove that little piece?

go to the detailing forum, there is a great write-up on cleaning your headlights, works great, and it only takes about 25 minutes. I did the AE mod and the cleaning at the same time....... looks sweet now. Goodluck.

Took longer for me since mine had some heavy pits in them but it looks so much better now.

If you do not have heavy pits but just a haze and yellow, the meguiars PlastX will do a pretty good job of getting rid of the haze.

the reflectors just unscrew but keep them in, removing it wont make them any brighter, but itll add to the glare. im messed with mine a few times. after much testing just leaving them alone was the best. altho its a totally diff story when it comes tot he foglights. take them out and ur really bright if u have normal h3 hids.
