rpm?

my 2001 5 speed averages 3400 rpm at 80 mph. it seems like that is too high. the engine feels like its workin too hard and i notice a power loss. could it be the maf?

Possibly could be a bad MAFS, with a 5 speed the RPMs are steady unlike a automatic. The power loss could be from clogged exhaust or air filter. But you haven't gotten a CEL huh?

It's a mechanical relation, so it will never ever read differently when using the same stock gears. Actual speed may be off, but the tach and speedometer relation will never change...
