Reset Ecu??????

alright fellas here's my dilema, while installing my new kenwood radio I did something and the radio shut off, I thought I had blown a fuse so I started removing one by one and they were all good, all I had to do was reset the radio and everything's fine but here's my problem: 1. the light the tells you that the door is open is on even though all doors are close. 2. the light from the trunk is also on. 3. I can't use the remote to lock/unlock doors, and the only way to lock the doors I have to do it with the key position on ignition otherwise it wont work. I have unplugged the battery for about 30 min while I washed my car, and problems still exist. Any suggestions? should I try to reset the ecu http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/ecu.asp
or should I take it in, I don't know how much the dealer charges to do this, does any 1 know?

I don't think it has nothing to do with the ECU. The ECU usually relates to an emmision problem of some sort. It sounds like you have an electrical short somewhere. I would check all the fuses by the driver's kick panel, plus all the fuses underneath the hood. If they are all good, then I would check the BCM (Body Control Module). This module is the center "brain" of all the electrical stuff in the car like the doors, trunk, remote, etc. If that is good, then I would get a multi-meter and check the voltage on the stuff that isn't working right. This will give you a general idea of where the short could be.

uhhh, maybe you shorted something, but not a fuse. try disconnecting the battery for a few hours and see if that helps.

ok this is what happen I was stripping the speaker wires and touched em together by accident and radio shut off, I tought I blew a fuse and started to remove the fuses 1 by 1 and when I turned on the car the lights came on, door, trunk, seatbelt. one other thing I drove the car to go and get some food and when I got back in the car I couldn't move the shifter eventhoug I was stepping on the brakes until I open and closed the door I was able to shift. Anyways I'm gonna unplugg the battery for the night and in the morning if its still does this I'm gonna take it in cause there's a dealer near by where I work.

Yeah, anytime you work on something electrical, disconnect the ground on the battery. This will save you the heartache of any electrical shorts that may arise, since alot of our circuits are "daisy-chained" together.

Thanks alot fellas! I unplugged the batt. overnight and this morning everything came back up and everything seems fine. I love this site! it allows me to work on my car rather than letting some one else do it for me.
