Clear/Stock Sidemarkers & Bulbs

I my 2000 GLE is the light blue "Satin Blue Pearl" color and I'm debating getting clear sidemarkers for it. My question relates to bulbs... what do you guys use?

I've had people tell me they would look good with bright whites, others with red/amber, others with LED, and others told me I'm better off just leaving the sidemarkers alone.

What do you think?

Oh... and what's the final word on the legality of this? I keep hearing "no problem" and "I get pulled over all the time". Is the fact that the sidemarkers are clear what makes them illegal or is it dependent on the color of the light?

Got pics of yours?

I'm going to clear out the HID turn signals this week and clear the front side markers only. I'll leave the rear side markers red for now. I'll prob use amber bulbs behind the clears in the front for both the side markers and the turn signals. HTH.

What matters is the color of the bulb. Stick with the clears but get amber and red bulbs. Just a matter of you wanting either LEDs or standard bulbs. kinda difficult i think to find any that are LED that illuminate the whole sidemarker... ive stuck to standard bulbs so far. What site do you plan on purchasing from? Ive tried Autolumination.com, theyre pretty good and timely shipping.

I would definitely get the ugly amber and red lens off the car asap and they look like crap. The color of the lens does not matter, it is the color of the bulb that matters. I have hyperwhites in now, switching to piaa leds, and I have never had a problem. I think you would have more of a problem with a color like blue or green in there. I've had them in there for about two years now, from when I used to work at a city facility in which cops stoped by all the time. I asked on about them and he said that you cooooould(drawn out could) get pulled over, but probably not as its not extreme or anything.

I was thinking of buying from autolumination.com or superbrightleds.com. I was told that the "921 9-LED" amber and red bulbs DO light up the entire marker and look great. Do any of you have those or do you have the 194 6-LED bulbs?

How "orange" might the amber be on the LED? If theyre too yellow, they wouldnt match the turning signals.

Hmm... well... I could replace the turn signal with amber LED too, can't I? Then they'd match and be brighter....

just make the sure the LEDs will fit thru the entry for your turning signals. cant get em too big unless ure gonna take the housing apart to get 20 or more LEDs in there. i personally like the chrome coated bulbs for turning signals.

i have the clears, but no bulbs in them, i got a $75 ticket for having hyper white ones. no problems since, even tho the reflectors still clear which is still illegal.

Wrong, federal law states that the markers must reflect red and/or amber.

I had super white bulbs but got pulled over for them. I have amber front and red rear. Not worth the hassle w/ cops IMO.

How about tinting the stock ones and using factory bulbs?

go on ebay and search for "side firing led" they have several vendors that sell them. i cant remember where i got mine, but they have 4-5 bulbs that shine sideways, and another 4-5 that shine straight out. i have 6 of these on my car. 4 in sidemarkers, and 2 in corner lights in my headlights. all look great and shine into the reflector just like an incandescent bulb would. the leds give you much clearer and crystal white/blue light. plus they last forever.
here is a link to what i have:

I had the clears with inverted led's which illuminated the whole lense. These led's can be purchased here: http://autolumination.com/194.htm
