Has anybody painted their headlight housings?

Post pics if you have please... i'm considering painting mine black for a summer project. I think it would make the max look more "retro" kinda like the new mazda 6's headlights...

Just a thought.

That pic looks like the ebay headlights that come like that. At least that is what it appears to look like. I would really like to do this myself, but I know how hot headlight housing can get and I would hate for it to ruin the paint later on. My max is majestic blue and I would like to do this when I put my dde's in. Can we buy can's of our factory paint? I was assuming I would have to take it to a body shop and have them do it. It would be teh saix, kinda reminds me of the 360 modena's headlights. I've also considered painting the taillight housings body color to match with all red lenses. From what I've heard the housings for the tails are a PITA to get apart and back together properly sealed.

ive been lookin to do this as well, ive searched other forums for what to use as paint, the plastic krylon paint is what people use to paint them, it sticks on plastic real well. and the color i like is the metallic black.

Just take your headlights apart (I like the oven method), tape off any parts you dont want painted and spray away.

I sanded down my surrounds a bit before painting to help adheasion.

Pretty straight forward process really.

I followed Housecor's write up in taken apart headlights. Then to smoke them I used Tamiya smoke paint. Same paint used on R/C car bodies to tint windows.

nice looking headlights. I am thinking of painting mine as well, but for different reasons. I am doing a HID projector retrofit on my 2nd gen and I don't want any light being scattered by hitting my stock reflectors, since bezels wouldn't fit in my housing.

Painting your housings will make your DDE's less jewel like. I did mine and I like it (aggressive looking), but I am ready for a change and am going to do another set without painting them.

Guys I know this is off the subject from the smoked Headlights a bit, but where do you get the material you used to clear out the turn signal lenses as well? Are there pics for how-tos on that? Last question, sorry I am trying to get everything in on one Reply . Where can I get the best deal on a new set of Headlamps? I would like to invest in a new (SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN) pair to try these changes on.

WOW you guys are allsome! Nice pics "upstatemax" and bugbit77 Nice How-to man I hope to get the chance to use it.

Thanks

I would really like to see a body color painted headlight on an 02-03 that is glossy paint not flat black like most others. If it were majestic blue and with DDE's that would be really sweet too =). Can we buy cans of factory paint, is there a close aftermarket match that I can use from a local auto-parts store? This is the thread I've been waiting for to install my dde's while clearing the turn signal and painting the housing at the same time. Only if I had projectors in there too. Every 5.5 gen owners dream.

I simply popped off the nissan emblem, did a fair amount of dremeling to remove all of the small fins. Then used bondo & fibreglass cloth to fill in the missing areas. Sanded, primed & painted it a matt black. Thanks for the compliment!
