car shuts off when i rev up the engine

i have a 2k maxima its AT, and today i was driving and for some reason i decided to put it in Neutral and rev the engine up "stupid me" and the car just shut off, after i went over 4k rpm. So i had to put it in parking and turn the car on back again,
whats up with this? did it happen to anyone b4?
thanks

i use to have one on, but it was my o2 sensor on catalyic converter, than i replaced it with new sensor. so the SES light is off. But when car shuts off all the lights come on. Just like when you are about to turn you car on, when you turn the key one step b4 its time to start the engine. All the lights come on than go off when i take the key out

i had a problem with it dying. Do u have an intake? I remeber i disconnected my MAF sensor and when i went to put it back in, i didnt put it al the way in(until it clicked) My car would die while i was driving and all my dash lights came on. this might be your MAF (dont take my word for it) wait for some more feedback.
good luck man..

You do know you can start a car in the neutral position right? Unless im just reading the first post wrong. Becareful when you do that cuz one more bump forward and thats reverse, lol.

Sounds like a hurting throttle body. Get that checked out.

from my experience, stalls or shut downs usually MAF related, Idle probmes IACV or Throtle Body related.......but i mean it could be anything so start 1 by 1

intermittents are a pain in the ***.....If you know how to operate a multimeter check the maf first..I've never experienced a maf problem, but would think there would be a safe mode that keeps the engine from dying....You should have a stored code as well, if an electrical issue shut down your engine....Look in my sig for directions...Make sure you test the MAF at WOT since that is where your problem lies.
EDIT: it's not in my sig anymore

It's normal. No load fuel cut. The ECU did it's job. Cutoff time will vary depending on how high the "overspeed" was. Anything over about 1800 rpm with no load will result in this.

A32's and A33b's don't do this.....

Samson, ya have proof, it's not in the FSM... that I could find..

Both mine will bounce there until I feel stupid and stop...

7200 and 6550.

Sorry...I misread the FSM. It kicks the fuel back in at about 1500 rpm, and it shouldn't flame out.

do u have an intake. my 00 5spd would die after a rev with my old intake, i swapped the filter for a good one and the problem went away. i swapped back to find out if it was actually the filter, and it was, so im 100% sure it was my intake causing the problem. i figured it was soemthing to do with not having any resistance in the intake path.

that might not help. but then again it might

Mine does the same thing. In neutral, and Park. Plus wen cruising, if i put it into neutral, it shuts down. The only code was P1320 indicating ignition coils, but the prob doesn't seem to be the igniton coils IMO. I donot have an intake, so it doesnt seem to be related to that either. I guess Id hafta check the throttle body, cuz sometimes my car has a rough time idling too. Any more info would be great to see. thx

I know I sound like a moron, but I'm new to cars in general. How do you know if your ignition coil went bad? Will your car not start?

are you sure?

that seems stupid since rev'ing an engine is normal.

whenever i rev my engine at all in N or P, the rpm's drop sharply and the car dies.
