The trip computers aren't very accurate. There are several reviews of 5.5 gens on Edmunds.com where people mention that. My dad's lincoln is the same way but the trip computer on my wife's Mercury Mariner is pretty much dead on.

thats because the computer figures for the last bit of gas you have left in the tank while you dont. its just a difference in the way it figures out. next time try adding the dte to the miles taveled, then divide by the total gas tank capacity and see what you get.

I've been doing the same since summer and getting the same results.

I do a lot of local driving and my computer says 17 mpg, which means I am getting no more than 14-15 in actuality. Thank goodness I only put on 4000 miles a year and I don't really care what the mpg is because it does not make a big difference in terms of overall fuel cost.

Ok, I know Im probably going to get more than yelled at here, but I gotta ask, is 19 intown average for a 2002 gle and a heavy foot?? what you guys get, I heard one guy with a 2k2 manual who got upper 20s intown. Also when it was newer I got like 30ish on highway(by newer I mean 11,000 miles ago when I bought it used), now....25....26ish..Don't really care about mileage THAT much, I bought the max for 255hp after all, not the MPG.

Wrong. Its just not accurate. MPG=miles driven/gallons used. There's no other definition.

My trip computer is always 2-3 mpg too high.

New tires improved the accuracy.

thanks!

My dad's Seville trip computer is dead on and mine reads almost 5mpg high. Must suck for Nissan to know that they have been out-engineered by GM.

The trip computer sucks... your manual calculation is probably a more accurate estimation.
