how to rewire 2k2 HIDs to work on 2k maxima
hey, guys i just won a hid kit for 02-03 maxima, it's OEM hid kit, it was used, but i think that they'll still work.. My questions is, how do i hook it up to my 00 maxima, like all the wiring and stuff, i figured out how iam going to get the bulb to fit in my headlight. But my questions is now how do i know which wire goes where? or is it plug and play?
its OEM kit for 02-03 maxima.... has anyone done it before, pics would be helpful...
thanks
huso
and i've looked at stickes couldnt find anything, and tried to search, and it gave me stuff bout 3rd generation, which dosent apply me..

Is it Nissan's HID kit? If so, I would just find somebody selling the 2k2-2k3 headlight housings only (no ballasts and bulbs) and go from there. This would be much better than trying to retrofit into your halogens. You would also benefit with better light output. As far as finding how to wire them up, all I can say is good luck. Many people have done it on here (including myself), but this is a touchy subject because of the high theft rate of these lights. Being a newbie, like yourself, kinda hurts in providing that information. Most people would prefer proof of ownership to provide you with this valuable information. Sorry, but that's the way it sometimes go here on the Org. And, as far as the stock Kelvin rating, it's 4100K.
Sensitive subject....Here's what I managed to dig up.

Bro, I am not sure what you mean by 02-03 HID kit, but I have a 2k max that I retrofitted Osram D2R bulbs to fit the H4/9003 socket in my OEM 2k housings,
Then I decided to upgrade and bought the complete 2k2-2k3 housings with bulbs and ballasts. These fit right in, but you need a 2k2-2k3 wiring harness, which is not too complicated to install.
So, let me know what exactly it is you have (i.e. Bulbs, ballasts, housings, wires) and I am pretty sure I can help.

Oh OK, since you have everything minus the 02-03 OEM headlight, you'll need to either modify the D2R bulb that comes with the kit you bought OR buy a 9004/H3 bulb to fit in your current headlight.
i'll modify the headlight, or i might as well wait couple more weeks till i get right 02/03 headlight, cause' i already have left one, if anyone has a right 02/03 maxima headlight let me know.. but i might jut plug in the hids and see how they work
thanks

personally I would wait till you get the 02-03 housing, because if you retrofit the bulbs like I did they will not fit properly in the 02-03 housing when you finally do upgrade.
here look at the picture of them:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=453214
You have to grind down the black plastic around the base of the bulb with a dremel tool, then grind the H4/9003 ring off a set of old halogen bulbs, grind away till the ring fits around the base of the bulb perfectly flat and even.
Then get yourself some Quicksteel (1hour set time) or JB Weld (24hour) The JB Weld will also work, but I liked the silly putty like consistency of the Quicksteel and the fact that it was good up to like 550 Degrees.
put some of this around the top and bottom (as seen in picture) let it set, and your ready to go.
As far as the wiring, you just need to tap into the power wire on your Halogen Harness, then ground the ground to the chassis. You only need the 2k2-2k3 wire harness if you change to the 2k2-2k3 headlight housing (it gives you all the plugs for the (turn signal, high beam etc...make things easier)
anymore q's just hit me up.

--- than i have pink and gray wire go to the turn signal light and green wire gos to another little bulb i believe its 921 not sure, it is used in corner lights on 00/01 maxima.... its the same bulb.
than from the small bulb there is black wire that goes back to the transformer....
now my questions is
where do i hook this up, what wires do i hook up with my wire that are coming from 00 maxima.
and i forgot to say that there is one gray wire that goes from transformer, and it is not hooked up to anything.....

(1) The ballast and bulbs will NOT hook into your Maxima without modifying the internals of the headlight housing and splicing in a 5.5 gen harness.
(2) You can get a 5.5 gen headlight housing, but then you will still have some wire splicing to deal with.
You were hoping that this kit would be plug and play, no? Well, it's not. You are going to have to splice a 5.5 gen headlight wiring harness into the 5th gen harness if you have any hopes of even powering the lights.

Shift, it's not as easy as you might think. Like Metal said, in order to power your lights, you have to buy the 2k2-2k3 headlight harness in addition to what you have. Call up Dave B. He will hook you up in what you need. Listen to what advice we are giving you. We are here to help.
hey, thanks guys

Has anyone tried to install the new JDM Clear Halo Eyes Headlight on a 02 or 03 maxima...I've got everything installed except i can't get the high and low beams separate, they both come on at the same time even thought they both have separate inputs...I previously had the oem HID factory headlights and i just got tired of having them stolen...Going on the 5th set of oem headlights and i just said F*** iT! My car spends more time in the body shop than i do driving...
Anyways...Any hints!
here the pic of the headlights...i got the ones with the clear projector, the ones in the pic show blue projector........

Point taken...but there are stronger bulbs i can purchase to make the output a whole lot better. I installed the data dot as soon as it was available but hasn't kept anyone else from trying....this last was the worst....completely tore up my fender and the funny thing is that they left the headlight on the ground in pieces and luckily didn't even attempt on the passenger side...I thought about getting rid of it but i love this car too much and too much effort has gone into it....
The output really isn't of concern to me it's just that i'll be statisfied once i can finally get some sleep without being worried.

it's quite easy really.. just get a tester bulb and figure the wires on the go. i didn't even cut mine, just peeled back the insulation and added on the extra wiring.
problem is if you want to make the lows stay on with the hi but i see in your case you don't care about that so it's a straight up wiring extension.

This is the reason why you have the low beams and the high beams coming on the same time. You need a factory service manual for both '00-'01 and '02-'03 wiring scheme to better understand the grounding issues for both set of years.
I'll definitely keep that in mind...Thanks, i had a hunch it might be the grounds...Cuz i can make them work individually the way that they are supposed to but not combined...
...But what still bothers me is that they are also selling these projector headlights as 02-03 plug and play ready...I've emailed the ebay seller time and time again but no reponse...Thats what i get for trying to save a buck...Hey any hints on where i can get such service manuals without having to purchase them...

Dude, i wish it was that easy....
...It's actually where i started, grabbed a multimeter, checked for grounds and voltages and that's as far i've gotten...I even went to radioshack and picked some relays to attempt to make the highs come on only with high beam switch...no luck...thanks anyway
