how many people have there idle set to factory

how many of you guys have your idle set to factory after you had your timing advanced two degrees up. by mistake i increased my idle by 75rpm when the timing was advanced. oh my god, it ran like a bat out of hell. i truly believe i could have gave a mustang gt troulble . it actually slipped in high first and in second. and i have a stick with z rated coopers. anyway i set the idle back down to normal because i thought it might be damaging to have the idle hovering around 715rpm when warm. once i set it back i still feel the difference with the timing advance but it is know where as noticeable. what do you guys think has any of you raised your idle with the timing advance or made any adjustments to idle. tell me your experience with this. thanks.

Why would the high idle damage anything?

And to answer the question, I do not. Mine is set at 650rpm vs. the OE setting of 625.

i bumped mine to spin the unorthodox faster after my timing advance. i remember going to 725 which 25 rpms up i believe. i noticed no driving difference, just less noise than before.

i didnt have mine changed, havent noticed a difference either. so are your tires slipping or your clutch? cause if its your clutch i think its time for a new one. and if its your tires, i think you meant you bumped it 750 not 75. a 75 rpm difference really isnt that much.

hey sloppymax, the base rpm on 2000 maxima is 650rpm i think, so if yours is 725 rpm your up 75 rpm, also, where did you get that unorthodox pulley, ive been hearing good things about it. how much is it and do you notice any difference in performance, does it pull harder with pulley. how long does it take to replace. only answer if you do not have a supercharger or nitros, also hooper i meant 75 and my tires are slipping, i must have a freak maxima.

You bumped your timing by yourself?

i think you need to get rid of those bicycle tires and get some car tires. you shouldnt have that problem. there are people who have done the advance on their 3.5 and not had a tire problem, your 3.0 shouldnt have a problem.

18inch wide? i think my huffy had 22's. height doesnt mean anything, its width. im serious though, you shouldnt have problems. either youre car is jacked up or youre doing something wrong.

no, it feels like it though because the car starts out closer to the powerband and makes more initial power. (placebo)

I'm at 825RPM idle, anything below 750 makes my car vibrate waaay too much. I have Place Racing engine mounts and with the car idleing around 800RPM- you can't tell I have solid engine mounts

Having the idle at other than the factory specs. is not going to give more power for crying out loud. An ignition timing adjustment that puts the idle out of spec. requires an idle air volume relearn. If the idle is not within specs. the idle air control valve can "bottom out" resulting in an incorrect idle speed obviously, a hunting/surging idle, decel "hanging", and IAC valve failure etc.

This thread might help me... i opened another thread about my idle... and thought that maybe some of you guys on here can help my problem... I have a feeling it is the IACV but not too sure because the car keeps dyin' on my unless i hold the gas for couple of seconds then let go and it idles fine. Kinda weird...

it seems like my car is a lot quieter but seems to shake a lot... i have the idle set at about 800 (on park)... on drive it drops down to 600 and close to 500... not too sure what the problem could be, but I definately feel a power loss ever since....

I had only one issue with my idle. It would drop to below 500 and come back when chaning gears or going into neutral.
so

I cleaned my IACV this weekend. and yes, you can clean it, excpet for the electric actuator. when it dies, it dies. But I cleaned the air way and the metailic rod in the middle of it and also a cone shaped piece that is attached to electronic actuator. Idle is smooth now because those two peices had lots of build up. The bolts that hold IACV to TB are pain too. Just like VAIS bolts, they are soft and you are likely to strip them.

I think i replaced them with #5x1.00 with 0.83 pitch SS bolts.

So now my idle is just below 1000 when coasting. Then it drops to about 650-700 when the car is stopped. I think its still in learning mode after having baterry disconnected.

Mine stayed at 625rpm after advancing the timing to 17 deg. With full load at night lights and audio systems my rpms rise to 750.
