8 is good highway, 9 is average/winter highway, 10 is combined, 11 is city.
Yeah I know, I'm getting 12.5L/100Km = 8Km/L = 17.5mpg

no dist, electronic. i thought i got terrible mileage but i get AWESOME mileage compared to you guys, about 18 almost all city. to whoever was asking why they get bad mileage when they only do short trips, short trips mean that the car is too cold and not reading the sensors, which means worse mileage because its pretty much not listening to the O2 and all that stuff that makes mileage better.

hmm....I was gettin bad economy but it was my MAF; but what i would do is
1) try different brand of gas...BP's gas may give you much better fuel economy
2) try putting about 2-3 oz of acetone in with the gas on a full tank of gas.
3) don't forget, sometimes after an ecu reprogram, you have to wait a couple hundred miles
4) check your exaust system like cat and precat. seems like youre fine on the intake side of things, since everything is new or you just checked it. do you pass emissions?

and since its winter, sometimes your fuel economy goes down due to temperature because cold air is denser and your ecu will try to match lower pressure with more gas

Wow! That's an amazing, considering Accord and Camry didn't move to direct ignition until the current generation, and not even across the board.

You might want to look through this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=445402 for more suggestions. Good Luck.

are you guys all talking about mileage according to the trip computer, or actual math mileage. I have found, like most people, I think, that the trip computer is pretty consistantly off by about 2MPG.

I'm talking about math... # of miles the odometer divided by gallons of gas pumped.

Which still suck for me as of last fillup... so PCV valve did nothing for me.

Any other ideas?

I did, thanks for pointing them out.

I meant if someone finds a common part that is causing bad fuel mileage in all of your cars rather than random suggestions such as winter fuel and PCV valve, please mention it.

They're not "random" things. Winter fuel and PCV can very well effect gas mileage... however most likely not to the extent of low teens in mpg.

If you're getting that kind of gas mileage, if there is a problem (there even may NOT be a problem) it will most likely be a faulty O2 sensor, MAF, or ignition coils. But, those things should throw a code. Otherwise you can get and OBD II and diagnose a problem the manual way.

Also depends on how many times you start your max/day. I noticed like 5 miles decrease/quater tank since i started to go to school. The best mileage I ever got on my max (highway) was 26 mpg. going 75 w/ full trunk and two chicks in the rear. I bet I can get more ASAget my rear calipers fixed.(pads are constantly rubbing rotors.) yeah check if your rear wheels get dirty faster than front. Could be a sign of my issue

Obese women will decrease gas mileage significantly.

Check out that thread that I posted. I just calculated my MPG after it being 15-17 avg for about 3 months - it is now 20 (based on one tank, no averaging) with about 25% highway and about 50% being 5 minute trips to school etc. and the rest being quick trips around town running errands etc.

If you're too lazy to look - I got that increase by going to my dealership and getting my ECU reprogrammed, getting a 17º timing advance (now using premium fuel instead of regular), and getting a dragging caliper replaced.

Yeah, Nissan was definitely a pioneer in that arena. And the coils used to fail back then too

A technique I read about on nissanexa.com (EXA = non-US name for the Pulsar NX, aka N12/N13 chassis) was "cleaning" the coil packs. The technique was to thoroughly clean all carbon crap off the coil packs and their rubber sheath in the possible event that ignition shorts were causing them to fail.

Are those fuel system/injector cleaners that they offer at quick lube oil places worth it or are they crap? I know Nissan doesnt recommend any type of fuel additives but....

Is there a way to tell if your calipers aren't releasing? I get about 40K on my rear brakes (much less than the front brakes). Also, get about 20 MPG combined city/highway.

If the rear wheels get dirty faster than the front your brakes do drug. Also when you driving it feels like power loss or that smn' holds your car's a**.

Finally I'll get rid of this problem!!! My brembo torors just arrived!!!

P.S. I'll snap some shots to show how big is the diff. between rear & front.

uhh PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation...
i think you are referring to EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation
hah! i still remember my crap! i should go take the ASEs and become certified. that way i'll be of more help to the forums

well i get bad gas mileage too.. but never that low. i had 16 before and that was from an intake leak. check for it. now i get like 19. when i drove a whole day up to JFK goin around 80-85mph the whole time i got 25mpg!
when i drove to edison on parkway i got 23 goin 80mph
just varies a lot. i guess those mile ratings are really rated at high speeds in 5th gear or 6 gear if thats wat u got.

I saw a Maxima Owner that had replaced the Crankcase ventilation tube with two small Intake filters. What are the benefits?

Lower Sulfur Gasoline has Maintenance Implications

Lower sulfur content in gasoline will be here by March 1, 2006. Read the details of this change and the implications that the change has for OCI and exhaust system life on my new posting in Fluids & Lubes.
