Random Technology High Flow Cats..Yay or Nay?
Random Technology High Flow Cats..Yay or Nay?
I was thinking about replacing my stock cat with a random technology high flow one, but will it still be emission legal? I haven't heard anything about these for our cars..Are they worth getting?
Why? not being a smart azz. If you are looking for power, it will not help. I only replaced mine with a highflow because mine was bad and the highflow was much cheaper than a factory cat.
I've had mine in for a few years now. no problems w/inspections or anything else.
worth getting? there's probably very little power difference. but, i bought mine when i got my cat-back system.

I have heard that they do not really free anything up because our cat isn't like most other cars, most of us have pre-cats so the main cat is a little free'er flowing.
If your looking for a pipe to replace your cat, I currently have a SS test pipe f/s. I do not know brand but its looks to me likes its in good conditions. You can me if you want.

Get a cattman if you're going aftermarket. Redline sells them. Corey told me that someone else actually makes it for catman, but i can't remember who at this point. Regardless, the thing is really, really well built. Far better than stock. However, don't expect any extra power. I only got mine because I killed my last one.
What is the difference between a test pipe and high flow cat? what are the ups and downs to both. Right now I have injen CAI and greddy evo2 Catback. Also have hotshot headers which have not been installed yet.
I've had a Random Tech cat on one of my previous cars and the honeycomb substrate collapsed and basically clogged the cat. I bought a brand new Catco cat from wrenchead.com (I think, its been AGES since then) for around 70 bux and has it installed for 40 bux to get my car to pass emissions.
Personally I do not have any cats on my car, and my car isn't very loud even with headers- BUT that is a personal opinion. Downside to it is, the smell from the exhaust can give you some headaches with the windows down. My OEM cat failed around 70K miles or so... I have been runing a test pipe for over 70K miles now, and got a bit over 140K on my car now.

You're fine in Illinois. I have a Random Tech replacement cat for my Focus. The cat is right under my header and it's been doing fine for over a year (although it's not a universal but a whole replacement piece.) It's also doing fine in terms of rust. No rust at all. Not bad for being non-stainless steel. Besides when your car is 2000 or higher I don't think they even put you on the dyno. I don't know if it'll make much of a difference in performance. Maybe in sound. If you want a replacement that is like OEM try CarSound cat (by Magnaflow). Found dirt cheap on ebay.
