Intake poll

This is really for my own benefit. If anyone wants to put their opinion in be my guest. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR THE BEST INTAKE, I just really want to know if it is even worth buying one, because they definately don't seem to be worth the money. And so I started thinking about like a pop filter. But is that even worth it or should I just forget about the intake and leave it stock. I have since been researching suspension because thats the advice I got and feel it would be worth the 200$ or whatever for springs than 150 on a short ram or whatever

If your worried about the price, you can always just check up on teh F/S section. But I have the GAB and recommend it. Easy, Cheap, and easily able to switch back to stock. You get the same power as most intakes and even lose less low end then others. Its not loud unless you are at WOT, so noise isn't a huge factor either.

I actually just tried the GAB today and it didnt work, I am a perfectionist and made sure everything was perfect, went to put it in and the the bottum kept slipping down JUST enough to open the seal. I couldn't get it to sit right even with 20 minutes of fitting and tweaking. I gave up ha. It didn't seem like it would be solid anyways

If you got a full headerback exhaust, intake will make a significant difference, if you limit you mods only to intake than....

edit: you really shouldn't base your decision on your poll because intake affects different setups differently.

Please browse around some more. There are 14 PAGES OF THREADS dealing with intakes in 5th gen alone. There's plenty of info out there if you just look for it.

the only reason I havn't got a berk or or the x3 one posted above is because I hear about losing torque. I just done see the point in gaining some sound and a couple hp but losing a couple ft.lbs at the same time and paying 70-150. Does a CAI do this as well? Are the CAI really worth the money?

If you can't get it to work the coat hanger way, then just buy another stock airbox from a junkyard or in the classifieds for 30-40 bucks and cut the top off it, you can even drill some holes into it if ya want. Still cheaper than any other intake and will probably give ya more gains.

yes but they are annoying to take out for cleaning every 5-10k miles, and they do get dirty...

SO, i've been reading all the intake threads now for a while and it seems as if despite all the "hot air" there really is no good reason to get an intake. isnt that odd? i mean, correct me if i am wrong, but doesnt getting any of the intakes (berk, franken, stillen, custom cai, ram, whatever) allow the car to breathe in more oxygen? in turn doesnt the computer mix more fuel? in turn doesnt that mean more power? or is the gain neglible/marginal? should we just dremel holes in our air boxes? forgive me if this post is really noobish ...but is the emperor not wearing any clothes?
regardless, my girl is still pretty much stock. my next project wont be intake, im getting progess springs/illumina shocks and a ftsb.

Do what I did. Disconnect the white plastic silencer and route a heater tube to the bottom of the car. It works great and no heat from the engine bay. All parts available at the Depo, and I am not talking about FatF***'s DEPo, Inc.

looks good but now you probably have to replace your filter not every 30k but every 3k miles because of all the dust your intake collects.

Filter is a K&N so just a cleaning and no replacement is necessary. As far as the filter and the dirt, yes it does get dirtier but only in one corner of the filter.

I've done stock.
I've done Stillen pop.
I've done Ed's GAB.

I like Ed's GAB the best. A little more top end and absolutely no loss of torque. These statments are based on my opinion only. They have not been dyno tested.

Weapon R Blows

I just finished installing the weapon R intake on my 2000 max and let me say its the cheapest intake I've ever installed.

The first problem I ran into was the PCV etc hoses were not the right size I had to smash them on and they are already about to break off, especially since they aren't even made of silicone like they should be.. The second gripe is they give you a POS MAF adapter made of plastic that you have to drill out.

Never ever ever buy a Weapon R intake.

i had a Weapon R WAI and kept blowing my MAFS. i went back to stock after the 3rd mafs blew and i haven't had a problem since, the bad part was that i lost my stock airbox so i had to buy an MAFS and a new airbox for like $800. i'm thinking of giving the apexi power intake a shot. i've decided that i only miss the sound that the intake provided, i don't really feel any difference in power either way. maybe a little more low end with the stock airbox.

jakillz, IMO you'd be better off saving the money and spending it on a set of springs and some illumina's.

I did the same thing and technically it wont why because of the front scoop that sits above the radiator. that acts like you AEM bypass valve. If you dont get what im trying to say look at your scoop for 5 mins...Itll hit ya

No. There are two intake openings, one at the top and one at the bottom, hence no straw effect. If the lower gets submerged in water, the top opening will still allow for air to enter.
