It serves only as additional mass/strength to the upside down U shaped rear beam.

I guess I should have mentioned "wider" wheels and "lower" profile tires will enhance grip, turn-in and braking characteristics. I guess the assumption would be that an aftermarket wheel/tire setup would generally offer both.
Hell, the VW R32 is generally considered to be "high-performance," right??
Did you know that the factory 18's that come on it weigh a whopping 28lbs each!!!!???? Please tell me how that helps handling or braking?
Grip is directly proporsional to sidewall stiffness and tread tackiness, as is braking.
Last time I checked, this thread was about putting 18'' 6th gen wheels on a 5th gen Maxima. You guys remember how to read, right?
I don't pay attention to who the moderators are around here. I just read and post, and I hope that my own common sense will keep me out of trouble. So far, it has worked out well for me. It's a real shame that threads like this one are being turned into circuses by noob hijackers, whiners, and flamers. If you have a gripe with a person or a group of people in this community, then there are better ways to handle it than to screw up someone else's thread. I'm surprised that at how far this thread has deviated from its topic and how far it has fallen from any sort of constructive discussion, especially considering the fact that a couple of moderators have obviously visited the thread.
I love the Org because it is the Org. If I wanted to read TheVBoard or ClubSi, I wouldn't be here.
BACK ON TOPIC:
The pics of the 6th gen wheels on a 5th gen look nice. Murano wheels don't look bad either. I agree that they look better on a lowered car than on a stock height car, but you'll have to find a tire size that doesn't rub too much after the drop. Personally, I didn't mind the look of my stock 17'' wheels, but mine were a bit more shiny silver than regular 5th gen 17s (Titanium Edition). I eventually wanted a fresh look for my Max, so I switched out my stockers for 17'' 350Z wheels. They don't fill the wheel wells as well as the 6th gen 18s, but they give the car a more aggressive look with a minimal threat of rubbing, and my upcoming spring/strut combo will help fill the gap. The 350Z wheels also have a different offset from the stock 5.5th gen wheels, so they don't seem to be recessed into the rear wheel wells like the stock wheels. I was going to buy spacers for my stock wheels, but I decided not to buy them after seeing how the 350Z wheels stuck out a little farther than the stock wheels. The look is nice.

Check out your FSM.

yes they will look good only after lowering, and do not get 245/50/18 tires, thats too much side wall. i recommend 235/40/18. it will look much better than the dumb as$ who has the 245/50.....

I transferred mine from my 4th gen to my 5.5 and noticed a much bigger diffrence when installed on my 5.5 than when installed on my 4th gen, but I did also add 15mm H&R spacers to the rear at the same time, nice!!Back to the wheels, might want to consider the 350Z forged or Altima Se-r 18 forged at least they are light, most factory wheels tend to be heavy but look good, I have 245/40/18 on 8.5" width 42mm offset with no rubbing issues. 2 cents

From what i getting on this thread is that the stock 04 SE 245/45/18 will rub so they need to be changed to 245/40/18 or 235/40/18 to eliminate the problem of rubbing on a non lowered car.
Is that the case, anyone agree or disagree?
I'm getting a pretty good deal i think on a set of 04 SE rims and tires, 245/45/18 but if they rub on my 03 SE then it's not such a good deal if i have to purchase new rubbers, 245/40/18.
Just want to ensure if this is the case with those stock 245/45/18. if it is then I'm not going to spend the extra cash to buy the 245/40/18. if not, then i'm going to scoop them up.
anyone ?

Im on H&Rs right now all around and I'll be getting OEM 6th gen 18s rather soon. I shouldn't have a problem with rubbing in the front b/c h&r drops the car mildly in the front but the rear is another problem...h&rs drop the rear quite a bit. Will I have rubbing issues in the rear?
I dont know too much about tire sizes so what size is recomended? thanks in advance

I used the rim calculator in the stickies and it looks like 245/40-18 is the tire size that will give the MOST accurate speedometer reading. Im picking up 04 SE rims tomorrow for $300 and will get tires later on tomorrow. I will post pics
