I was on 880 south back from Berkely and a black 328 passed me and checked on me...I have no performance mod (took out the oscai for dealer work) and my car just looks like a christmas tree. then he pulled forward and stayed two car length in front of me...I tried to get close, but everytime I did tat, he just stepped on the pedal and kept 2 car length in front me...seemed he wanted a race.

when we got near to 237 junction, where they have major construcion all over the place...no shoulder on the inner lane but concrete dividers. traffic started to build up on the right lanes so we both moved to the left 2 lanes where they were clear and we were still keeping the 2 car lenght. I saw a chance there, turned off my A/C and I slammed on the gas, shifted into the most inner lane. he noticed my aggressive movement =) and sped up. I was getting close and close to him. When we came close to an S shape curve right before the junction, we were next to each other and our speed was about 100. I started to pass him bit by bit while my baby was running 100 into that S curver. It was really scary when there was a conrete divider right next to ya, about 2 - 3 feet away from my mirror. And I realized how soft the stock suspension is: I could feel left side of my car is much lowered than the other side when I was in the middle of the curve. After I finished the turn, I noticed that I was 1 - 1.5 car away from him and I was running at 120, 125 and he still tried to catch up. It is the first time that I navigated a moving object at the speed of 120 mph and I realized how fast 120 is really like by watching other cars disappearing on my mirror in 2 sec. He was unable to catch me and we ran for another few seconds. I had to slow down at about 130 due to lane merge and HE STILL WANT TO RACE ME! He too hit the brake and highbeamed me front behind. I didnt take it so he passed me.

It was fun....but it was dangerous when I think about it now. hope I wont do this again and if this ever happens again, I should think about my family before I once slammed on the gas.

LoL, i know what you mean man. My friend has a base model 318! When we go down to the mountains to race, on the highways i destroy him, but on those freakin twisties, he gets me every time. I've seen him push that BMW to the limits, and I've seen him do things in that car that a maxima could NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER DO. Sorry to say, but you guys know as well as i do that the Germans have us licked in the engineering department.

I agree! The BMW has one of the finest chassis in the industry. Unfortunately a front drive car (in my opinion) can only be so much.

Kev: I was in south bay, somewhere near milpitas. East bay has too many cars and too many cops.

I've hear that FF perform better @ high end than FR on acceleration. dunno whether it is true or not. But Bimmers have 50-50 front and rear weight balance. that is why they do better on turns than us. plus bimmers' RWD and low end torque helped a lot on exiting a turn.

that FF performs better @ highend isnt nessarliy true.. its just the engine peforming that, not the rwd/awd/ff.

nah, it all depends on gear ratio in ur case; RWD doesnt nessarily mean better or worse, it doesnt matter. It just means instead of power to the front, power goes to the rear wheels with a driveshaft... thats it.

the bimmer is great on the turns

because its more of a sports car than the maxima, even though they call it a four door sports sedan, it is still a sedan and more of a family car. if you want true handling, you shouldn't have gotten a maxima, if you did like me, then you need more suspension mods. i know i do .
