Cattman Exhaust System

Hey Guys,

Last night my Mechanic and I was installing a Full Cattman exhaust system y-pipe to the cat back muffler. We are having problems with the install going smoothly. Does anyone have this setup and has pics of the finishing product? If so can you please post them? We seem to be having problems with the exhaust system rubbing in some areas. We get rubbing around the cross suspension supports located under the resonator. We are getting rubbing around the heat shield where the muffler pipe passes the fuel tank. It seems as though the muffler with the mounts installed lays crooked so it rubs on the rear bumper too.

Please help.

Thanks

1. Remove the cross brace or use some washers to make it lower in order to give yourself more clearance.

2. Get stiffer rubber hangers or some hose clamps to add stiffness to the OEM muffler hangers. I've posted pictures in other threads before, so look around for those, or just go to page 6 of my homepage.

I emailed Brian about this issue and his suggest turned out to be the fix all. I didnt believe it but it was like night and day. He said that we should check the resenator to see if turning it around could be the reason why everything is out of place. After twisting the resenator the whole damn exhaust system layed into place PFM! That knocked my mech. and I off our feet. Nice trick Brian, LOL! Now we just have to get this O2 sim to work right.

Why do you need an O2 sim for a y-pipe+cat-back install?

There is enough wire to make it.

Why would the CEL come on? You're not removing any pre-cats with a y-pipe. There is a bung for the rear O2 on the y-pipe, either remove the plastic clip holding the O2 wiring in place so that it'll reach the bung or just cut the sensor wire and extend it.

If you have a CEL, its for something else and not your y-pipe installation, unless something was damaged during the install.

Here are some write-ups a few of us have done:

B1S2 has to either be extended or you can just remove a couple of the clips to make the wires reach the bung in the y-pipe.

I believe that on Cali-spec or 2k2+ with a y-pipe the rear bank precat is removed and the front is left in place. So you are removing one... But if you re-install your O2 you should not gat a CEL.

I had to lengthen the wires on my Cali-spec, but it is very easy and I've never gotten a CEL.

The 00-01 Cali specs have one pre-cat in the y-pipe and one pre-cat in front of the y-pipe right after the manifold, so there you are correct.

BUT for the 02-03s, there is no pre-cat in the stock y-pipe and both pre-cats are between the manifolds and each bank of the y-pipe, so an aftermarket y-pipe does not replace/remove either of them.

And here I thought I knew everything.

It always bugged me that I still had one precat with my Cattman Y. I dont even think I would bother buying one if it didnt get rid of any precats.

Oh well, hopefully I will be able to get my Cattman G2's this summer... I hate having to wait to mod.

I did it just for the experience... and it only lasted 3-4 months on the car.
