Best? It depends on what your application is. Do you have a serious sound system? If not just get a Duralast or Die Hard.

...anything that fits.

...unless you have a major sound system, then get a YellowTop.

Otherwise, it doesnt really matter. Just get one that is maintenance free.

I can't find the dam link now, but IIRC diehard got one of the lowest ratings according to consumer reports and Autostart and duralast did very well...
I would def stay away from Diehard....Wal-mart or Autozone

Nothing beats an Optima, but you will pay.

Do different batteries really do anything differently for the car except adding more sustained power like an optima?

I don't want to give bad info, but I'm not 100%.
They are all measured by the same standard.
CCA
and
CA
As long as you ger manufacturer recommended specs or higher you will be ok.
The problem with some brands is that batteries work on a chemical reaction.
A 12v battery has 6 2.2v cells (IIRC)
When they get cold or bounce around the created cells hold up better in some brands more than others.
THe only real difference is that certain brands fail sooner than others. I.E. diehard VS. Autostart
Of course I'm comparing lead-acid batteries to lead-acid batteries.
There is also a difference between lead-acid batteries to deep cycle batteries. but that's apples to oranges. I don't know much about the deep cycle batteries either.

For more than you ever wanted to know.

That link is biased to their sponsors. I wish I had access to consumer reports. I know for sure that in 03 and maybe 04 Diehard as one of the worse. (I think it was consumer reports review) I don't think they've changed anything since then.

The best batteries I've used have been the green topped Interstates. They last a LOT longer than the El Cheapos from Wal-Mart and Autozone, at least from the numerous cars I've had with both brands on them.

If you don't have a powerful systme in your car.. you don't need an expensive battery. The battery is only to turn the car on... that's it. so as long as you are close with the CC ad all the crap you need to turn your car on.. you are good to go. MY CHEAP Autozone battery is been in my car for three years now with no problems....

Haha, he's probly not talking about duralast,lontar1 that is suprising since the CHEAP cheap(Valucraft) are crap and will freeze within 1 year of getting them no matter the charge(it might actually freeze the winter you get it if it gets wicked cold) although i just noticed your in florida so i guess you wouldnt have issues then lol- Duralast is good but the best bet is a duralast gold, which is around the price of a diehard gold or whatever it is.

I agree. Why buy an optima if you don't have a powerful system. I've always used die hards and interstates and never had any issues. I used batteries from auto part stores and had nothing but problems with them. The cells keep dying in one that I brought from Lappens so I stay away from Autozone and PepBoy batteries for that reason.....
