Y-Pipe emissions
Y-Pipe emissions
ok, so i understand that the y-pipe will take out the precats, will this past emissions at inspection? I live in houston so they plug a obd connector and take ecu readings for pass fail. No tail pipe probe. I wanna get a cattman y-pipe with straight through b pipe, will this be loud? im gonna run stock muffler.

I got a code with my y-pipe. P4030 (i think). I have a 2k2 fed spec. In Houston, they do check for codes. Most place dont do visual inspections. As long as you dont have a code, you will pass. I had to get 02 sims. Works great.

Not 100% sure about that. I went to emissions with my Warpspeed on, and no SES. Did not pass because the "catalyst" was not ready. I hit the clear DTC, just as a precaution the night before. They asked if I had any work done or Battery disconnected. They said drive it around a while for a week and come back. I did, same thing, did not pass, but the computer does a Catalys check every 400 miles or so. This did not pass, and got a SES light.
PO140 code I believe? So I put my stock pipe back on (with cat) and tried again. Did not pass.
Got a SES a few days later. looked at the 02 sensors, with some troubleshooting help from Blackbird, found the O2 sensor was bad. Replaced, kept stock y-pipe, passed.
Now last week I put on the warpspeed back on, have gone more than the 400 miles, but no SES as of yet, and no pending DTC's.
The catalyst is still reading "incomplete" as of right now. This would fail the emmissions test, right from the beginning.
If you are warmed up and they do the exhaust pipe test you would most likely pass. As far as the OBD, with the catalyst not ready, or incomplete, you will not even get to test, as they will fail you.
I will let you know in the next few days if the test passes, or stays incomplete. I am assuming that since it has been about 600 miles, and nearly 2 weeks, it will stay incomplete. Possibly an O2 sim would fix, but am selling tha car later this year, and will go back to stock. Did not want to monkey around with that.
the reason it failed is because you clearned the codes the night before. the ecu will go through a cycling phase for the next xxx miles and certain number of start ups. after that amount of mileage and no cel then you should be ready to test.

Yes, I know but when the car cycled through it's test, it failed again. This was 2 weeks after the initial run. I then put on stock Y-Pipe, it failed on the next ECU cycle as well.
This is how I found the bad 02 sensor. Now back to good O2 sensor, and Warpspeed - Y, It has not yest completed the Catalyst, and that is after 700 miles so far. It only took about 300 or so the last time. My point was if the ECM test is still incomplete you will not pass. So far with a working O2 sensor, y-pipe and 700 miles, it is still incomplete. Same start ups, same routine every day, should have given a SES by now. (No SES, and test incomplete).
