New Cattman exhaust question
New Cattman exhaust question
I got Cattman B-pipe and Muffler about 2 weeks ago and I have started to notice a lot of popping and pinging of the metal as the car warms up in the mornings and cools down whenever I turn it off. Most likely this is due to expanding and contracting metals from the heat(I hope).
Has anyone else noticed these noises? Do they ever go away? If so, how long does it take(on average)?
The real reason I am worried is because amidst the pinging and popping, I can't tell if any of it is my exhaust hitting the cross-member, or maybe extra movement from the muffler(I still have stock exhaust hangers, but I plan on doing the hose clamp fix tomorrow).
I wanna make sure that the junk isn't being damaged because I think it sounds like heat expansion pinging.
Thanks

id like to thank swisscheese for this thread.....because i know the next time i go out to my car all im gonna be doing is listening for a pinging or popping that ive never heard/noticed before from my exhaust. thanks alot @$$! j/k
My stock exhaust does the same thing, just not as loud as an aftermarket exhaust. It is caused by expansion, as you stated. If you think yours is loud, you should listen to a GTP after it is parked/turned off. They sound like a ticking time bomb! LOL
