Sunroof question

Just got a 02 maxima. Had a great deal of wind noise coming from the sunroof area. Took the air deflector off, as I don't care for them. It helped a great deal.

Washed the area around where it was, and noticed the sunroof leaked. Is this an adjustment I need to make to stop it, or put a new seal on it? The current seal is flexible, but not sure what it is suppose to look like.
Thanks for the input
Bryan

Thanks for the input guys. I've read his site, (good stuff) but the leak is not addressed. It rained today and there was no leaking. My guess is I was to close and blasted the water into the seal, but under normal rain conditions it will be fine. I'm still going to do the adjustment of the roof with the shims, but I have to figure out where the heck to get them for .65 each. I went by my dealer, and they want $8.00 for one, and it's a special order item so I have to buy like a bag of 10.

O forgot, the parts person at the dealer also told me I didn't/couldn't have a maxima SE because they didn't have sunroofs, nor where they options for that model. He told me that I needed to re-chcek my sticker on the door, or bring the vin # in because he thinks it's a GLE. So, I've now found out my local dealer will be useless in getting parts. Any ideas?

Stay away from that Nissans parts person - his a moron. Yes sunroof is not standard on SE - it's an option but as far as I know 90% of SE Maxima's have it.

WOW hopefully this guy was brand new. It might be tough for a junkyard because the car is so new, try eBay (my favorite). Or it could be that this guy didn't have a clue, and told you the price for some other part that he took it upon himself to assume you meant. Maybe try a different dealership?

You can go to Nissan part department and ask for part number:91249-50J10 (adjusting shim) I belive you will need two of them they like $0.50 each.

If you add a shim be careful not to tighten the screw when putting the nut back on. I broke the damn screw and it cost me $500 for a new roof and $200(got the hook up) to put it back on @ the dealer. A .50 cent problem cost me over $700 to fix.

Update, First I have not gotten around to the shims yet. However the roof does leak. Is this normal? I ask because, there seems to be gutters built into the sunroof frame for draining. Which has me thinking Nissan planned for this item to leak a bit? What are ya'lls thoughts on this? Under normal rain it doesn't appear to leak, but if I wash the car watch out. It's like a waterfall. It does not leak to the point of getting the inside wet, but I can hear it draining out the gutter system in the roof. Do you think the shims/adjustment will help this?

My sunroof will leak a little if I hit it with high pressure water while washing it or if I commit the ultimate sin of taking my car to one of those automatic car washes with high pressure water jets. It does not leak under normal rainy driving conditions. I think it's just high pressure water that does it.

As for that guy who says the SE can't have a sunroof... I have an SE Titanium Edition with a sunroof. Nissan's "service technicians" and "parts specialists" are notorious for being clueless about Nissans.

In regards to the shim, how many of these should be installed on the 5th gen? I checked this morning and noticed there are 4 of them on the left side but only 2 on the right!!! Maybe that’s the reason why there is little wind noise when I go above 55mph.

Tilt up the sunroof, step outside the car and look from the side. There you can count the number of shims installed. Please report back if you have 2 or 4, thanks.
