ECU self test monitors

Me too have replaced the MAF. My car is due for state inspection. Pa requires an emission test. I've been driving the car for 1 and half week after the MAF replacement, but my code reader keeping telling me the catalytic converter monitor still not ready. So my question to people who have experience of replacing MAF themselves, how long does the ECU self test take to reset all its monitors ready??? Thanks in advance!

Why did you replace the MAF? What does this monitor do in terms of emissions monitoring? Are you getting any codes?

try this thread. Do you have a Y-Pipe? If so read my take on it. If not it should go through the test after around 3-400 miles.

The MAF has nothing to do with it, it is mosty likely when you disconnected the battery, the ECU needs time to run through all the checks.

Though my 2K1 W. Y so far has close to 1K after I put th eY back on and Cat test is still not complete.

Yes, I got a DTC P0171, and the code didn't come back after I replace the MAF. No effect of any kind to drivability though. As far as I know, using a code reader/scanner to read the car computer is a part of emission test. After disconnect battery, one complete drive cycle is require to allow the car computer to reset itself, or relearn something. But I have no idea how long the drive cycle has to be. Probably some people out there with more experience can give a better explaination.

The "Readiness for Inspection/Maintenance Test" ("the relearn") is on page 10-21 of your Owner's Manual.

That's an exercise and a half! Drive, stop, rev up, shake your buttie, scratch your left ear with right hand, then repeat... Wow...

Wonder if anyone else has ever done it. Feels like a Nissan scam to get you to come to dealership for them to do it for you at some pri$e

If you have the time, then "normal" driving over time should eventually accomplish the full "relearning" function. Just ensure that you have a correct, stable idle. The Owner's Manual procedure is the surefire quick way.

I just went through this in NJ. In NJ for a 2000 year car they will still pass you even if two monitors show "not ready" as long as you don't have a CEL. For a 2001 car, they allow one "not ready".

Check you DMV web site in PA. Suspect it will be the same!

Good Luck!
