Why o why did Nissan make their cd player not work with cd-r. It's crazy..these cd's work in every other cd player out there except for my maxima!

Anyone know a fix??

I've used CD-Rs in my changer - no probs. In fact, I find they work better than the commercial CDs, very little skipping and drop outs.

BTW, I use Maxell CD-R 80/700s

Short: Mine plays cd-r's no problem

Long/Rant: I hate the 6cd changer, not just in Nissan, just the whole idea, even in dash. It's such a hassle. That being said, when the car is cold, the bose skips the cds and I can't even listen to them. I drove the car for an hour listening to one cd (a real cd, no way out, one of my favorites) and no problems. I start the car in the cold and every 20 seconds it skips, and then the song timer stops moving even when it is playing, urg. I know this HU is a common problem, but it doesn't cut out, it just skips the cds and it makes me so mad

I don't have an ipod, or and fm-modulator. My buddy had his hard wired into his cd player, but I don't know enough about doing that and I want to do it myself. I should start with an ipod though...

Are you talking about "Audio CD" burned on a CD-R/RW or MP3s burned on a CD-R/RW. The audio cd on a CD-R works fine, but the HU cannot read MP3s burned on a CD-R. Also i never had a problem with the Bose HU skipping (even in extreme cold weather). The only issue i had was a stuck CD in the HU which was replaced under warranty.
Besides, isn't the CD-changer actually made by Clarion?

When I had the BOSE in my car, it played CD-Rs with absolutely no problem. It even played some pretty scratched up ones without skipping. What speed are you burning the CD? Try a slower speed and different brand of CD-R.

Since they seem to work for other people, maybe you're not burning it with the correct options.

all those cd's i burned are not mp3 cd's but rather audio cd's. Majority of them are Memorex 700mb 80min burned at 8x. Maybe couple burned at
40x ...and all them were tested with my regular cd player. All cd's skip in the new maxima. burned...purchased..brand new..it's crazy!

I have well over 150 burned cd's!

I am going to try using my cd/dvd head cleaner..if that don't work....I am calling dealer b/c i just bough the car like 2days ago!

CD-R play just fine in my BOSE and also in my Non BOSE in my 02. Yes the owners manual states does not play cd-r, but it does........Get better quality CD-R or slow down the speed at which you burn them........

No problems yet here with cd/r's. Only the skipping problem when it's cold out.
Not sure if the speed matters though, I thought the disk speed only mattered when you go to burn the disk?

That damn Bose radio does skip in the cold. I want to put my fist in it but I am letting it live so I can use that FM thing for the pod.

Mine will randomly hate some burned CDs and love some, they are all of the same compression and speed.

The Bose in my 2K will play cd-r's burned at 30-40x fine. I would try a different brand of disc. Try to find ones made in Japan vs. Taiwan as the Japanese made discs typically use a different dye (they appear more blue in color). Fuji is sourcing discs from both countries - look at the label and try some Japanese made ones.

I have no problem swith CD-Rs but if you us CD-RW, the burn surface is different so the cd player will not play it. Look and make sure you are not using CD-RWs.

Unless you hardwired it, CD quality just obliterates anything an iPod can provide. Cassette adapter, horrible, FM transmitter, don't even start. I have an iPod, but use nothing but CDs in the car.

Premium Sound System SUCKS

'03 Max with "Bose Premium Sound System." First HU skipped when it got cold out. In the following two years, I ran through four more HU's:

#2 had a bad display right out of the box
#3 lasted a few months before right audio channels died
#4 displayed an error code and wouldn't play CD's at all, right out of the box
#5, in now, skips when cold. So I'm back to where I started.

It's now out of warranty. Even if it was still in warranty, I'm not sure I'd want to go back for still more punishment. Clarion is the mfr of the HU. For some reason Clarion has never struck me as a real high-quality name in audio gear; this experience seems to support my opinion.

I strongly suspect Nissan knew about the skipping problem even before that sound system hit the showroom floor. The owner's manual gives some BS note about how if the CD player doesn't work during cold weather, it's because of moisture or some such thing. I've checked in friends' cars, and their owner's manuals don't give any kind of warning like that (and their CD players work great when cold). I have no doubt that the note was put in the OM so dealers can blow off all but the most egregious of malfunctions.

Well my appointment was moved to today. When i called in the sales rep..he was like.i did not know you had anything wrong with the radio..(I spoke to him on wednesday, the day after i bought the car, And i mentioned the problem and he stated he will have the guys at service take a look on monday)...

Well..the rep had me call up service and they earliest appt they had was today...i spoke to the service mgr over the phone and mentioned my problem...He stated that the radio, made by clarion, is known for the issue. He also stated that it was not under warranty..i was very dissasitfied to hear. I mentioned that i just purchased the car and he stated that it's only under warranty for the first 36k miles. my car has exactly 36500.

I am going into Nissan in the morning..and I have a feeling that they are going to try and screw me into paying money to fix the problem. After hearing Preston Drake's story..if they try to charge me..I will tell them to shove the radio up their asses and go purchase an aftermarket units.

Any suggestions??

Chas

Damn..thanks for the heads up..and about the owner's manual..Your..right..it's does mention that it skips b/c of moisture..

My cd player skips all the time! Even when the heat is on high blast for 15-30min!!!

Freakin Nissan Selling Worthless crap devaluing their cars..i should have straight up bought an Dodge SRT-4 (My first choice).

I had one cd that was hardly scratched at all (cd-r), and then just in case I reburned it, and the problem seemed to go away. I guess if your having problems, reburn the cds you listen to the most. I'm trying to find a cheap ipod though and then hardwire it into the car, my friend has it like that in his A4 and it is really nice to have, especially on long trips.

Well..been having some problems w/ my stealership..The past couple days i called..they stated..that they had no information that i was even there. I was like i can drive my new car down and show you the gaping whole where my radio used to be.

Well to make a long story short 8people spoken to..5days worth of calling..got me....squat..one guy told me can take anywhere from 6-8weeks for them to get it back. I was very iratated to say the least.
