lingering smell
lingering smell
sorry for the guys who read my thread from the other day and think im just spamming, but no one responded to this question... anyways, I recently burned my clutch pad after slipping in second and it is now almost 2 full days later and I can still smell it whenever I get outa my driver door or pop the hood, should a pad smell for this long (p.s. the car is running fine even after the run in)
your clutch is probably on its way out. Put your trans in 5th gear at a stand still, rev to 2000 RPM and release the clutch it should stall immediately. If your rpms go up after your pedel is fully released expect a new clutch in the next day or month.
lol. Try a full days work. 6-7 hours. A good tech can do it in 3. Not sure how much the disk alone is. Usually when replacing the clutch you buy a kit that replaces the pilot bearing, throw out bearing, pressure plate, etc. between 150-250 for parts. I would go aftermarket oem will probably be very expensive.
I don't want to discourage you though. With a basic set of crapsman it can be done. the motor mounts have to come out. At least the one on the trans side. The trans mount comes off, starter, tires, halfshafts, etc, then you just unbolt the trans and the clutch assembly is right there.
I just read your other post. Def sounds like you burnt your clutch a bit. You may not have destroyed it, but you def cut its life span way down. If/When you do end up replacing your clutch be sure to check your flywheel for stress cracks. If you heated it up enough you will probably have to have it turned or replaced. I always recommend replacing over turning, it's not that much more expensive compared to labor costs to do it again.
