Boring 2k1 throttle body...

I'm wondering if there would be any negative side effect to have my 2k1 throttle body bored ? I was told that this could increase the throttle response substentially. Does anyone has something to say about that, positive or negative ? I was thinking of buying an extra throttle body and have it bored so if something goes wrong I can still put the oem back.

Thanks for any input.

why not just buy the pathfinder TB, which is larger and will fit, IIRC?

Is it really a direct fit ? Plug and play ! If it's the case I didn't know that, anyway I bought a 2K1 TB at the local junkyard for 30$.

Its not exactly plug and play but the two are quite similar in terms of the sensors. No one has tried it yet on a 5th gen (IIRC)

Hey Larrio, thanks for your input. It made sense for me to go the 2k1 TB, because of the direct fit, the guy who does the job is very professional and experienced, he does that for living. I'll keep you informed once I have it installed on the max.

cheers

if you would not mind finding out how much he would charge for the labor? i was going to use a 4th bored out one but would not bolt right up so i was looking for something direct play. stock tb is 65mm and i would be interested if he could get to 68mm with it.

( based on the pics of the 2k1 TB ) that he can bore the TB - 4mm.

I dont have is e-mail here with me but I'll let you know over the week-end.
I'm willing to be the guinea pig and then see how it work on the max and let you know asap.

Without FI and/or exhaust mods, it probably won't do much.

What is the stock difference between a Gen 5 and a Gen 5.5 throttle body? If you switched them stock for stock, would it be worth the $30?

Would it be a worthy mod to switch them out? Or can they not be switched because of the mechanical vs. electronic?

tb porting

Having worked in a high end Machine shop as a 5 axis CNC programer and operator porting and polishing cylinder heads, intakes and throttle bodies.
I can tell you just a tb port wont do much if anything. The tb opening is already as big as most intakes if not bigger that there is now reduction in flow. And for a $100.00 bucks you could spend it elsewhere I'm sure.

IIRC the 5.5 gen is 72mm and drive by wire

The 5th gen is cable driven and 65mm

My car will see boost once tax return is in. I'm doing all kinds of little thing that I believe will make this car rock once the project is done.

65mm? You sure about that? I thought it was 58-62mm.
