my max got owned....

so i parked my car at my buddy's apt complex... i parked next to... not under, next to those outdoor garages. You know those covers, that pretty much serve no purpose but to protect residents' cars from rain... kinda.

anyway... i come out after a couple hours to find something that looks like mud splattered all over my rear driver's side. didn't really think much of it at first, but after a couple days... i'm washing my car and this 'mud' wont' come off. turns out, they were re-painting their roof's and their paint splattered all over my car.

furious, i called up the leasing office, and they apologized and said to take it to a detailing shop, and they'd take care of it. [as politely as possible] i told them, that if they were to remove the splattered paint, my own paint and clear coat would get damaged, and the only solution is to sand and re-paint my car. the manager laughed and said you can get it off with rubbing alcohol.

what should i do? should i insist they re-paint my car? the paint is on several panels... front and rear driver's side door, roof, trunk, taillights, rear bumper, rear driver side fender, rear window, driver side windows, passenger fender.

is it really possible for a detailing shop to remove the paint without damaging my own paint and clearcoat?

i'm soooo peeved. any advice would help.

First thing you need to do is get an est. from a body shop on the cost, and type of repair. Then go speak with the prop. manager. What you have done has already put a wall up on the prop. managers end, and things will be just that much harder now. You must play it cool. Loose your cool, and things will not end cool.

Document everything. The dates, times, pictures of the overspray on your car and on the carport area where your car was parked. That would be my suggestion.

It should come off without damaging your paint. at most a wet sand and a new clear.

But the guy is correct, De-natured Alcohol should take it off and not hurt the paint or clear.

I agree, and that's ****ed up that happened to ya man. Just be cool, and go about it the right way, and you'll come out better than when you started.

He's right, without documentation, you won't have a leg to stand on if it escalates into court. Go overboard with it; it will only help you.

Go take pics, of the place and of the car and get a written estimate, make a copy of it and take it to the manager. If it is just a wet sand, or even just them taking the paint off, then you shouldnt have a problem. If they say you DO need a paintjob, call the manager and tell him and the next move is up to him. If he says yes, great if not then ask why and be a little more firm and if still no then its time to write the state attorney general(or get your own lawyer which might end up costing as much as the paintjob itself)

This happened to my cousin. An entire BUCKET of white paint splattered all over his car and it was on there for like 2 weeks until I decided to see what would happen if I took a microfiber cloth, Meguiar's Detailing Spray Bottle (that comes with their clay bar) and wipe it off.

Paint came off like it was water. Go get yourself a bottle of meguiars detailing spray bottle (or a clay bar package that comes with it) and use it. Guaranteed to come off.

latex paint should come off with no issues. Oil based would be a different story.
Take pictures of everything and file a small claimes case. You should win.

That sucks man... but i would get some clay bar and detailer and it will probably come out. Make sure you take pictures before you start just in case it does not come off.

Take it off yourself and then charge them how much detailing place would take. If you need a reciept, go to the shop and ask them to make you one with a higher cost and just pay them like $20.

If the paint can be removed by a detailing shop, I would just go that route and inspect it after. It would be hard to sell a car that new with a complete repaint. An inexpensive paint job would end up looking worse.

I AGREE!!! If the manager told you it'll come off w/ rubbing alcohol, let him remove it then.. It'll prob come off, so just take it to a shop, and have them deal w/ it and rebuf it.. i wouldn't repaint the car!
