Removing Sunroof Deflector

So i just took a screwdriver out and removed one of the screws just to peek under and see what the paint looked like. Of course, there was a ton of dirt which luckily washed right off. There is a little damage on the passenger side, which i could learn to live with after a good claying, polish, and wax. As i was puttin it back on, it won't get as snug as it was before. It's not goin anywhere, but it's not as tight. If i were to take the whole thing off, how hard is it to put back on. Is there a secret to the little arm things that elevate it from the body? How do they come out/go back in? tia. Also, how much louder is it without?

i don't have the sunroof visor but i'm thinking of getting one tho. with out the visor it sounds very windy with the sunroof slide open.

with the sunroof visor you have on right now, is it loud with your sunroof opened while driving on the freeway?

One of my visor arms won't stay in place. So now the sunroof visor has play in it. The screw there doesn't tighten either, but the arm and screw on the other side are quite tight.

It's still fairly noisy when the sunroof is open, but not unbearable. A bit of music makes the noise disappear.

That I'm not sure about. I can only imagine that once the screws are released, the arms should slide off too. :\

Wait for some more folks to chime in.

The sunroof visor is held on by two clips. Just loosen the screws, and the clips should be free. Just reverse the procedure for install. I had taken mine off a couple of years ago, and it left some scratch marks where all the dirt and grime rubbed underneath the weather stripping. Had to touch it up with touch up paint. To me, I think the car looks better without the visor.

k just went out and unscrewed it and took the visor completely off. Some damage around each corner. I think most of the dirt wil come off with a couple hard washes. The clips do not seem to want to come off. Do i have to slide the sunroof back in order to get them off? Also, how much does touch-up paint cost from the dealership, and how hard is it to fill in little scratches and junk with it? I don't have a pc, and ain't gonna get one, just for the record.

EDIT - i just looked at courtesy and they have a touch-up pen that has paint on one end and clear coat on the other. If i filled in with paint, covered with clearcoat, and buffed by hand as it got dry, would that look right?

a few thoughts

I have an 01 pearl white max that had the sunroof deflector on it when I bought it. I took it off to clean and permanently remove it because it looks better without it. I had a nice black ring on my roof that took some cleaning to remove. What I found best to use was TURTLE WAX BUG AND TAR REMOVER. I found this at wal mart and used a micro fiber towel and alot of elbow grease. I got all of the grime off but some paint damage "ring" was left but buffed it out with MOTHERS scratch remover and applied MOTHERS wax after that. If you want to put yours back on, my friend and I secured his two clamps with a little electric tape around the clamps so they don't rust against the sunroof body, nice snug fit. When I took mine off there was some rust buildup started and the TURTLE WAX took that off also.
Just my two cents...........................

If you don't have one of these stupid things, I wouldn't get one. The decrease in noise just doesn't seem worth the paint damage.

my guess is i will just put the thing back on. I love the way it looks without it, but i don't have the money to throw at it to get it back to normal. I don't have a PC or any touch-up paint, so i think i'm s.o.l. Drats...

The whooshing noise just reminds you that you're alive! ENJOY THE SOUND OF THE WIND! If you want quiet, sell your Max and buy a Buick Lucerne.

just wondering if you guys had any 3m (or equivalent) protectant tape to put under the hooks for the visor. i bought mine from custommax and it came with those which is good considering that the visor leaves scratches.

my clamps were completely loose once i undid the screws. It's amazing the thing doesn't just fly off when you put the roof back! I don't know how it gets such a secure hold as it does.

I bought my car with it installed, and recently took it off. Underneath it, it scratched the hell out of my paint, but it does looks better and I am used to the wind noise. The only problem is now whenever I hit a bump, it sounds like the lower sunroof sliding cover bounces around giving a nice noise. I'm gonna have to look into it, any ideas?

has anyone here had experience with the touch-up paint pens that courtesy nissan sells? Or should i stick to the touch-up paint with the brush applicator thingy that the dealership sells? Is it impossible to get it to look right if i do it myself by hand? (no pc) Or will it glob and look like shmit?

edit = if i were to get the brush applicator paint from the dealership, should i just add some paint thinner, apply it with a toothpick, and then smooth over with the edge of a credit card or something, then polish and wax? tia

Another question while i'm at it. When i have my sunroof open, it's like the vents at my feet start blowing out hot air. This is when my a/c is not on at all. Does anyone else's do this, and can i stop it somehow? my feet get hot! While you're here, look at my ? above too. tia

touch up pen had a big fat tip that will easy over fill the unwanted area, blush type even worse. Dealer touch up paint was also a little off color as well, the best I had try was from paintscratch.com, expensive but color match right. if u don't mind little off the color, just use Duplicolor touchup kit from auto part store, it had the best tip I use among three of them.
