Rattling noise...
From 1700 to 2000 rpm i can hear a rattling noise comming from car, sounds like its coming from the engine area. This is the only time i hear it, could it be the timeing chain?? Or maybe something else...

I am curious to see if anyone has anything new on this. I have read the pinging threads but this is something different I think. At 2k even on flat surfaces, barely resting your foot on the throttle aggravates it. Very fast paced and a light metal sounding rattle from up front. I heard it at its loudest in my car today actually.

I've been researching this for quite some time. My pinging was exactly as you describe, somewhere between 1500 and 2000 rpm, usually when coasting down a slight hill. Raising the RPM caused it to go away. I tried a catch can which helped reduce it by about 90%.
My theory is that adding 4.5 qts of oil on a change is a little too much, enough to whip the oil into the air and be sucked into the PCV. I'm very meticulous with my oil change and noticed that adding 4.5 qts always put me at or above the F mark on the dipstick.
Two oil changes ago I decided to try adding oil to the half way mark on the dip stick, instead of dumping in 4.5 qts. I filled it up with 4 qts of oil and then .1 qts more put me at the halfway mark. I removed the catch can and have not heard any pinging yet.

Good point by 2002 Maxima SE!!!
You may actually be right -- when I used to fill in 4Q flat, I didn't get this ringing sound. But then when I started putting in 4-1/4 Q (don't know how much is still in there before putting in the new oil), I get this ringing sound.
BTW, I get this ringing sound when the fluid is actually new compared to oil that has run its course!!
FYI, my PCV is clean and no buring!!!

oooo come to think of it. i only heard that rattle come after an oil change myself . it could very well be the amount of oil used as said. next oil change i will do the 4.1qt refill. i hate that damn rattle noise. soooooo annoying and scary. and plus, my car has other rattle noise, like one that comes from the driver side mirror and one from the dome light lol.

My 5.5 gen is doing the same thing but mine is usually around 1200-1500. Basically if im in 1st or 2nd and just idleing and i hit the gas it will rattle. Sounds like metal on metal to me. Mine did before and after the intake.
