Having BIG problems!

I bought a theft recovery 2002 maxima and the computer was missing along with the immobilizer module. The car lot where i got it from put a computer and an immobilizer in the car to get a sale. When i got the car I noticed that sometimes the car would not start. But when i lock all the doors then unlock the doors it would start. Since I only had one key for the car I rekeyed the entire car and when the locksmith go to program the ignition key and he tried to put in the 4 digit pin code it always says "Invalid Pin Code". As a result I bought another computer for my car and I got the same error message again, now the car can't start. Do you think it is the immobilizer or some security module that is causing the car to do this?

Did you buy it on a salvage title? Does your state have a lemon law? How long have you had the car? If I were you I would bring the car back and get your money back. Sounds like more trouble than its worth.

Probably the worst idea ever. Like gball said if you can take it back just get rid of it while you can.

Oh I'm sure the dealer would be a pain in the **** about it, but thats why I was asking about the lemon law and stuff....at least maybe he could have the law on his side. Not sure how all that works in BA (the Bahamas). Deffinitly sounds pretty sketchy...I think we just found out where all the 5.5 headlights are going!

Na they don't have many Maximas over here with the 5.5 headlights. I got the car from Miami. It was starting when I got it. I cannot return the car because I live in the Bahamas and I bought it in Miami. Please guys try and help me instead of the negative talk.

there is no lemon law on used cars. Cal the dealer and tell them that the car is acting funny.. unless it been more than 30 days.. I think that's the warranty for used cars. Anyway.. call a local Nissan dealer and make an appointment. They are going to rape you but they will fix it.

Well you could try using different codes? Hey the new keys that you got made were they the nissan ones with the little chip in them that need to be programed or did you just make some keys like for a house. Also the immobolizer needs to be reprogrammed i think because the key send its code to it then that to the ecu that lets the car start. I there was a video of this somewhere on the org.

It's the black key with the chip in it. Do you think i have to buy a new immobilizer because it keeps on saying invalid code?

If I could have found a theft salvage max that I liked, I would have definately bought it... its the best kind of salvage there is and once you make a few minor repairs, they're usually a great deal. I agree with super, maybe it's the wrong key, or if not, try having everything reprogrammed. Maybe unhooking the battery for 10 mins? Also, since it would sometimes start and sometimes not, maybe something was installed incorrectly, or there is a spliced wire or bad connection somewhere. Call the place where you bought it and ask them if they had any problems installing anything, or if they know about any problems with the wiring. I would say, unless you have the extra money, it would be worth it to try a few things before buying a new immobilizer, unless they are cheap because it might not be the problem.

I found out what the problem was, it gave off code p1610. So I caught the first flight to Miami and bought a new immobilizer 117.99 came right back a few hours later and installed it in my car then reprogrammed the key and it started right up one crank. I'll do anything to make my Max feel better :-)

Thanks alot guys!

Well I do work and I do make money. The car was a theft recovery thats it. I have the car insured in the Bahamas for 18 grand. I paid 4500 for it in Miami. A ticket to Miami plz, if you can't afford a ticket to Miami you should not own a Max plain and simple.....get a civic.....lol

Buying a salvage Maxima --------------------------------- $4500
Buying a Plane ticket to Miami from the Bahamas ---------- $190.00
Making sure my Max is happy ----------------------------- Priceless
