Common 5.5 gen problems?

I am in the market for an 02 or 03 6speed se and was wondering if there were any common problems to be aware of and/or look out for. Thanks

well just like any car there are common issues we have. off the top of my head, people complain of rapid oil consumption, the sunroof thing currently being discussed, headlights being stolen , rattling from the Bose system, left Bose channel cutting out, wind noise from the rear windows...there are other things covered by recalls and TSBs, but those are all in the stickies. good luck looking for the car.

Not normally much of a problem, however the sensors inside the windows go out occaisionally.

my friend has a 2002 se automatic and has this weird shifting problem from 2nd to 3rd. it doesn't want to shift right away, if you keep your foot on the gas pedal the rpms keep going up but your not accelerating and then they drop down when it shifts into 3rd. Do you guys have an idea of what this could be??

The transmission dying. Keep abusing it.

I owned an 02 6-spd for a while ... never noticed any problem with oil consumption.

But I had to replace my rotors quite often because they kept warping. Had the same problem on my 01 maxima.

Also, replaced my Bose head unit three times, for the problem with the left side cutting out.

I haven't had any problems with my 02 6 speed but I've only had if for about 8 months. I haven't had my mass air flow sensor (MAF) go out on me yet but the 02's are notorious for blowing through them and they are pricey. The brakes are known to be a little "incompetent" for our maxes and the best fix for that is upgrading them. Many org members have upgraded to the Z32 calipers with larger than stock rotors or 6th gen maxima rotors and calipers and I've also heard of upgrading to the altima se-r brakes. The Z32 calipers will not work with the stock wheels tho. My one complaint would have to been a soft suspension but I plan on upgrading my springs and shocks and adding a fstb and rsb. Good luck
