2k1 knocking noise...
2k1 knocking noise...
Hey guys, I have a 2k1 with D2 coilover and all the suspension mods, I've notice a clunking noise in the front of the car, I've check and it's not the D2
everything is tight. I tough it was the wheel hub and bearing again but both side was replaced last year and the car was stored for the winter, I'm wondering if that could be the ball joint ?
It sound like something is loose but what make this hard to find is the car's handling is great, the car alignment is perfect. The clunk is like if the coilover would be totally loose and would be knocking on the upper mount but again everything is tight so I'm absolutely shure it has nothing to do with the suspension. I've check the engine mount but they seem to be ok the rubber is in good condition so I dunno wtf is wrong. Any idea ?
Thanks for helping.

Its most likely the D2 camber plates.
Open your hood and press down on the hood a few times to reproduce the noise. Take a close look at the top bolts on the camber plates. You'll probably see them moving

again. When I shake the car ( well it doesn't really shake everything is so fuc...g stiff ) it does not replicate the clunking, the car has to be in movement, it happen when I drove off the drive way or when I hit bump.
Anyway I got to go finish that brake maintenance, but I'll let you know later this afternoon.
Thanks.
Andre
Don't shake the car. Just get it to travel laterally. I'm fairly sure you'll see the culprit
And again, it doesn't matter how tight the bolt is. Its the camber plate and the whole assembly that is the issue

Anyway I'll bring the car to the shop in the morning and see from there.

That's what I'm starting to think. I'll check that as well in the morning.

I'm only making this assumption because I had the same issue for a few months, not because i'm some expert or something
Hey Larrio, thanks for you input, I do not doubt your explanations, so if I understand correctly I'll have to replace both pillowball mount ? Anyway I'm going to remove the D2, there must be a visible sign of wear or if something is broke right ?

I never found a way to fix the pillowball knocking noise. I just had my own coilovers made
The knocking noise is really annoying this make the car sound like a pos, if I dont find a way to fix it, I'm going to replace the D2 by something of a higher quality. There must be some coilover that doesn't have all that knocking. What about your coilover set-up ? How much it cost and who build it ? Can you throw me some pics ?
Mine uses the OEM upper strut mount, so no chances of noise. I hope you can fix this issue first, it would save you a bit of money
Shoot me an email and i'll get you some pics during the week. larriomotors@yahoo.com
