Doing my first performance mod...

Ok, I hate to start one of these threads, but with all the various posts I have looked through concerning intakes, I am more confused now than before.

I want to buy an intake for two reasons that weigh equally as important with me; sound and performance. I've read that there aren't much HP gains, and actually there may be losses especially with the Injen. I'm aware of the MAF issues associated with over-oiling the filters, therefore, I was opting for the Apexi filters that don't use oil.

Now the real confusion...seems like there are so many different intakes and no clear advantages or disadvantages between any of them. Based on all the different information that I've tried to sort through, I was considering the Berk intake with the APEXi dry filter. Best price I've found was $190 shipped.

Thoughts, comments, concerns???

Y-pipe is out of my budget this month, also, I'm thinking that is is going to void my 2yr/36K extended powertrain warranty. Hmmm, wonder if the intake is going to void it.........

wish I could hear the Frankencar compared to the Berk, but can't find any sound clips of just the Berk.

The short ram intakes all sound the same just do the ghetto air box mod. Intakes loose bottom end but they increase top end performance.

GAB a little too risky for my area. With the number of potholes and terrible roads in my city, coupled with my amazing luck, it would fall out and suck a leaf into the engine.

GAB FTW.

easy to do. As long as you own a thick hanger it wont cost you anything. I carry my actual drop in piece in the trunk incase I need to switch it out I can do so in about 1 min. All the advantages of a aftermarket intake and you don't loose as much low end either. Do this mod, save your money and get a y-pipe.

I will agree on the Y-Pipe+ GAB... Buying an intake is almost useless unless you have the mods to make it worth while, on an almost stock car, The GAB is the only way to go.

They are exactly the same in terms of functionality and sound.

Dude lol, all the GAB is you remove the thing that holds the filter in and make a make shift device to hold the filter in. lol There is no way a rock could get in there unless you drive with the hood wide open. Anyways the filter would block any object trying to get in there. And heres the instal how to
