i'm gonna rework my oscai this weekend to try and get some ram air action going. but i'm wondering if this is just a poor subst. for the real thing.
does anyone have any objective (dyno would be great) comparisons between the difference an oscai vs. a retail cai would bring?

thanks

I believe the best way to compare these two are with 1/4 mile runs. CAI doesn't show much on the dyno and I'm assuming the OSCAI doesn't either. But...

there is gonna be little difference if any in the HP gains for the two systems. They make their horsepower when the car is in motion and the cold air enters from the airflow created. This is just not available on the dyno. You can do a search to get peoples speculations on the gains of each, but remember that they are not true reps of how they actually work. I can say that there is someone claiming that the OSCAI gains 10+ HP (once again a search would confirm my earlier post but I don't believe it) I don't even claim the true CAI adds that much and just adding a tube to your air box and facing it forward for "ram air" does not add 6 HP. There was an article in Sport Compact Car that said the the KN filter added 4 HP to the 00 max. And they got curios and just ran the system open with no air filter at all. They found that added 5 HP. It is statiscally impossible to prove that 1 HP gain was from the open air box. I believe that Pual2GXE was the one that explained it best on why.

...we get about 10HP at the wheels from an AEM CAI (you may have been referring to me), BUT

1) Our stock intake is already very restrictive.
2) Our stock intake manifold sucks compared to the 5th Gen Max's.

...so we stand to gain a lot more from aftermarket intakes than you guys, and I would expect LESS gains from aftermarket intakes on the 5th Gen Max than on an Accord V6. The stock stuff in your cars is already pretty good, relatively speaking

I must have missed that one, ispeed. The only claim I've seen is that the OSCAI resulted in a 2/10ths of a second reduction in ET in the quarter mile. But I don't believe I've read a post where anyone claimed that the OSCAI produced a 10+ HP increase.

If you find the thread, let me know.

it is a poor man's CAI....if u go for the real ones...u also have to consider about modding the exhaust due to the increase of the flow thru intake.

I would try the OSCAI first since it is cheap and easy. If you like it, stick with it. If you are willing to spend the extra money though, go with the CAI.

No i wasn't refering to you. I honestly don't know jack about the intake system on honda's so I would take your word on how much they add. W/O some hard evidence or something it sounds to me like its possible. Sorry for the confusion.
