This code is 99% for the coils. Replace all six to avoid any future problems.

Yes that is the coils. I just took mine in to the dealership and that is what they said. All 6 is the best way to fix the problem. I have not done it yet, they told me like about $500 or $600 total

Do you have an extended warranty? Got mine done for free under the Nissan "Security-Plus" extended warranty

Just wanted to say that other things could cause this as well. Coils are pretty expansive (when buying all 6 of them) so I'd check other things before spending $360+ on them.

Yep....coils. I agree with mixxmax on replacing all six, since my issue actually moved around to three more coils as I replaced one coil at a time. Just get it over with and replace all six. They should be about $65 each delivered. My local dealer wanted $800 for the set.....yeah right......

I had the same code but I also had another code that told me I had a misfire in cyl #1. The 2nd code was key because it told me which coil to replace (saved me about $300 which I would have had to pay to replace the other 5).

Many people seem to suggest replacing all of them but I only replaced the one coil 2 yrs ago and I haven't had any problems since.

How is your car running? If it is running OK then mabye you can wait to see if you get another code indicating which cyl it is.

If you decide to replace your coils it is also a good time to replace your plugs. You are there anyway and I just replaced my plugs and discovered that the worst one is from the cyl that had the bad coil.

Well took it to the dealer yeah they say is the coils and that there are certain cases that the engine harness goes bad and that is a big thing to replace they told me it could be up to $3000 to replace it if the actual harness did go bad. But they say to do the coils and if the SES light goes away then im lucky. I have no warranty they didnt charge me but told me to replace them my self since is very simple and cheaper.

Yeah i just bought my car and i guess i have a 6 month warranty. So they said that they are going to fix it by putting in all 6. I will do a tune up and change the spark plugs here in a week.

dude, before replacing coils check your fuel pump pressure and put some injector cleaner in the gas thank. You could also replace the spark plugs just in case. I mean before spending money on the expansive stuff, why not eliminate other possibilities?

There's a special device that you hook up to the fuel line. All repair shops have them.

I replaced only my two bad coils in January and had no problems since. If you want check my sig for a way to test your coils.

p0300 is for a random cylinder misfire.

IIRC
p0301 is cylinder #1 misfire
p0302 is cylinder # 2 misfire, etc....I can't remember for sure though.
So I'm going to assumme his other code was p0301

Typically on generic scan tools it only shows as a random cylinder misfire.

I pulled a P1320 today... and was curious how it would affect my car in the future if I did not deal with it... EX: Not replace the coils. Also is this a major problem? I just spent a chunk of my Money to replace my MAF but the coils seems to be liek 6x as much as the maf lol.

Replace them!!! If you don't, you're car will definitely run like crap! You'll expereince hesitations, stalling, and whatever ever else that will drive you crazy. You may even get stranded at some point. If I were you, I would invest in getting 6 brand new coils and replacing them, OR, you can find out which one(s) are bad and replace. But, I would recommend to replace all 6 at one time to avoid any future problems. Good luck!

Once you are sure what exactly you have to replace you should do that as soon as possible. In a long run the missfire can result in mulfunctioning O2 sensors, spark plugs, cat (and precats) and dramatic increase of engine wear and tear.

I agree with Drklop.
It took me about 3 weeks to actually buy new coils and put them on, 2 weeks later i get p0403
which is the pre-cat for some reason i believe it had something to do with not replacing the coils soon enough. Thats what i think .

P0430 is the front pre-cat. I had that for a loooonnngggg time before actually finding a used front pre-cat and replacing it. Unfortunately as soon as I did that the P1320 comes up. Cr*p...so its time to test the coils.

It won't...I had the same hope that it would disappear. There is really nothing mechanically wrong, it is only a pre-cat failure (emissions) and your car will continue to run fine. But in the long-term with emissions testing and/or selling the car you will need to have it corrected.

The cheap fix is an O2 simulator which basically fools the ECM that the emissions are OK. Your max still should pass any emissions testing with an O2 simulator because it is a pre-cat failure, this is only for warming up the car, after the car is warm then your emissions are fine.

The more expensive fix is to get a new (or working used) pre-cat from another Maxima. I was lucky to find out for relatively inexpensive. I think the new ones are going for a few hundred from independent parts suppliers.

First you have a 2K max (like me) and if you looked thro the forums P1320 is so common that you will be surpirsed that Nissan has gotten away with faulty coils and had customers put the bill.

Now, if you haven't changed them ever, go and get the 2K1 coils and replace all of them, since it is long overdue.

Now, coming to P04(2/3)0 codes, I won't go the O2 sim way. I had them come and go and replaced all the O2s for $330. Now Iam free of codes for the past 7K miles, looking at other causes for these codes like cats and precats is premature and unnecessary.

In short it is time for coils and O2s if you are on the original parts.

Pep Boys now has the coils for around $56 each... I think the front ones are stocked and the rear ones are Pep Boys warehouse orders... or the other way around... I work there part time for the discount... heheh

Wow Nissan's coils are worse than VW's...
The SES light came on in my maxima, i hope it's not the coils
It's also on because of the coils in my uncle's 1999 I30

I would just replace that faulty O2 sensor for that particular code. I would go with the NGK O2 sensors.

There has been no conclusive evidence as to what really takes care of code "P0430." For me, it was replacing the front pre-cat. For Love 00 Max it seems to be replacing all four O2 sensors.

To be honest if you have patience and are fairly good mechanical wise you can get a used pre-cat for far less than a set of new O2 sensors. Plus it is easier to install than O2 sensors.
