I want a new horn

I know its probly been covered before, actually i remember reading a thread a while back about putting a camry horn in the maxima but i cant find it now. I'm just fed up with the way this little tooter sounds, when people cut me off or pull out in front of me i dont even beep it i just yell stuff and wave my arms, probly looks pretty dumb I'm wondering where exactly is the horn on this car and how hard is it to change, autozone sells universal high and low tone horns that i guess sound pretty good but just am not sure how to hook it up. Ok well sorry if its a but at least send me a link, Thanks

I also need to get rid of the tricycle horn thats in my maxima...sounds absolutely ridiculous. I won't dare beep at someone. I looked around under the hood and I found two horns, one in front of the radiator, and one on the left side of the engine. Seems pretty easy to change, looks like there is just a harness to plug in. I'll try to find some info.

In the meantime, anyone have sound clips of their horns? I'd like to hear the 350z's.

Horns are very easy to change, just power and ground. I'd also recommend Hella Supertones as they are very loud and popular, but if u get them be sure to get model 85115 - made in Germany.

I was driving an '06 2.5 Altima all last week (rental) and liked it's horn tone much more than the Maxima. I may look into picking up those as replacements.

Are the hellas or 350z's a direct replacement? Or do you have to find a new way to mount them. I don't get screwed at the dealer because my dad works there... Preferred customer

Behind the fog lights???? Considering these horns are relatively unidirectional, I would think that the sound output would be greatly reduced with a foglight housing sitting in front of it.

Oh and what is this "FTW" abbreviation?

In the 5.5gen's, we move the horns to prevent the horn wires being cut to steal our headlights, honestly, we really dont care where we move the horns to lol

You could look into the horns on the I35. The sound is great.

Alternatively, you could buy a set of PIAA Sport Horns. I bought a set a little while ago in the same frequency range as my OEM I35 horn (400 Hz, 500Hz) to install on my girlfriend's Mazda3. Though I have yet to get around to installing them. The nice thing is that they're only like $50.

I got mine for like 10-20 bucks on my350z.com.

Install the same way as stock, but I had to make one of the mounting holes bigger, I dunno if you will have to on a 5th gen.

Hella Supertones are great. Nice and loud, but still kinda high pitched. I like mine though. If you want a deeper tone, get the 350z, altima, I35, or camry horns like the guys mentioned.

The cheapest was full kit 200 bux, and thats a 5L tank.

And they have some kits that run all the way up to 2,300!

Anyone know what frequencies our stock horns are at?

I dont understand why people prefer the Hella 85115 over the 85315. Besides the fact that they're from Germany vs India and slightly louder... the 85115 are also a lot more high pitched arent they? Wouldn't the low pitched 85315 ones sound better?

Our horns are really weak high pitched sound like a little girl's voice.

We want a stronger lower pitched horn like a frieght train.

Right????

Stebel Nautilus Air Horn

This past winter, I installed that Stebel air horn on my motorcycle. The horn draws a lot of current (18 amps if I remember correctly) and the stock wiring on my bike couldn't candle the current. I used fused 12 ga wire right from the battery through a relay. It draws enough power that the idiot lights in my gauges dim when I honk it. It was a little bit of work, but if you have ever worked with electronics you can do it.

On my bike, this horn is LOUD. In the garage it was startling to hear. It's a self contained dual tone air horn. The motor spins up fast enough that there is no delay like I thought there might be (I imagined it taking a second for the compressor to build pressure since there is no tank). Holding the horn in your hand you can feel it torque sideways when you energize it.

I haven't had it out in the weather so I don't know how it will hold up to water, salt, etc, but I am really impressed with it so far on my bike.

You can hear samples of it here:
http://www.stebel.it/stebel/index.htm
(You'll have to drill down through Products / Electropneumatic / Nautilus Series)

: I'm ordering this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...tem=8059339119 right now.

Last summer I drove around with a 120db airhorn and scared people for ***** and giggles....that horn was rated at 120dB at 1meter, this one is rated 139dB at 2meters. You do the math, a 19dB increase on a log scale, plus the extra meter.....
