Busy weekend of little mods
I stayed up late Friday night putting in my air horn. I got a "Fiamm" horn set from Pep boys for $25. My buddy found an old bracket from something and he and I mounted the horns under the battery pointing downward to drain away water. I left my OEM horns in too so now I have a chorus of differnt pitches everytime I hit the horn. Those new ones are incredibly loud. I will certainly not be ashamed to honk at anyone now.
I also performed the side blinker and fog light rewire later that night. Props to Russ for the directions. I had to do them from a printout without the pictures which made it a bit more difficult, but overall, not too bad at all.
Then...this morning I went over to Home Depot and picked up some mesh to make my lower grill. It didn't take too long and it looks pretty good....very subtle just like I like.
Anyway, I took some pics of the horn and the grill in case anyone is interested. Have a good weekend everybody!

The grill looks good brother! How long did it take you? How exactly did you install it? Do you have the exact measurements of it from when you cut it?

I don't have the slightest idea where to begin.
Dooball: I have an Epson Photo PC camera. It has 3x optical zoom and I think 2.11 mega pixels.
I got it at www.refurbdepot.com
It does great work and the battery life is excellent for a digi camera.

Phat guy. It didn't take more than 30 min to put in. I didn't have to cut the grill at all because all it is in actuality is a a mesh gutter guard. It fits in perfectly with only a bit of run over on the sides. I then just used black zip ties to hold it in place. The whole thing cost under $2.50.
Max34: The instructions are pretty easy. The horn has three wires: one neg ground, one red constant power, and one to go to the horn relay so it knows when to come on. I just hooked the negative to the car's body, the positive to the battery, and the relay wire to the wire leading to one of the OEM horns (between the grill and the radiator).
Finding a place to mount the horns is the hardest part. I am just glad that my buddy Chad found that old bracket. It ended up working perfectly.

Hey man, how did you mount the mesh behind there? I have also been wanting to do this, but couldn't figure that one out...

Mesh
Did you paint the mesh with a clearcoat or water resistant paint? If not, what do you expect life expectancy to be before it rusts?? Looks good, maybe the material is stainless steel ???
Maybe someone out there can manufacturer this product out of lexan or plastic?? Anyone have a contact in the aftermarket industry??

Flowmax
Couple questions on the grill (which looks really nice by the way).
1. What are the dimensions of the piece you got?
2. Did you install it from above or below and did you need to jack your car up?
3. Once you're there is it pretty easy to tell where to install/attach it?

Adam and Russ (aka triplets to be)
You all are cracking me up with all the matching car talk.
We all live in different areas of the country so it is cool. We just need to be sure we don't park next to one another at Maxus.
I certainly copied Russ' rewire stuff, and most of us have copied Kevin on something...so I can't complain about anything.
Punkdork and Killrwheels:
Here is some additional info to help you all get the grill in there whenever you want to try to do it.
First of all, like I said in an earlier post...I decided to go with a piece of gutter guard mesh. You know...it is a small 1'x3' piece of mesh that you stick over your gutters to keep leaves out. The kind that I got is made out of stainless so won't rust...thus you don't have to bother with the clearcoat spray.
I took the pop brackets off from under the front bumper of the car. I think that there were three on each side, and then slid the entire piece of mesh (no cutting) up into the opening.
Then I laid down under the car and moved the piece around until it was kinda where I wanted it. Then the jerry rigging started. I was trying to find a way to keep the grill centered as well as flush with the front of the opening. I ended up stringing some zip ties together and making a loop around this big aluminum bar that is right above the grill on the inside. Then I hooked the top of the grill to the big alum. bar to keep it elevated the correct amount. Next, I just used a couple more zip ties to hold the grill forward by hooking it up to the back of the liense plate holder (sorry for those of you with no front plate).
I didn't take long and the grill is in there and pretty snug in place. Those directions were pretty crappy so I will try to take some pictures tomorrow from the back so you can see things easier.
I think out of respect to the maxima elders I will dub this mod the "OGG Grill" -ooglie gutter guard grill.

Where can I get something similar?
For a name how about: OG Grill, just drop one of the G's (Ooglie Guard Gril ). Heheh then all ya need is a gold tooth!
What does that old bracket look like?

I would imagine that if you went to either the "shelving accessories" or the "hinges" section of any hardware store you could find something that would work fine.
I just took the battery out, drilled one hole in the battery pan, then bolted the bracket (with the horns already mounted on it) to the battery pan. It wasn't too hard at all and the horn sounds great.
