Car feels Extremely loose

Not sure what happened here.. Was driving down the highway fine then the next minute feels like im driving on a flat.. Get to a store and all 4 tires are fine.. I know i need new shocks but not sure if bad shocks would cause this.. Feels like im driving a rear wheel drive car on ice.. Like the rear will swing out with the slightest turn.. Guess i should really replace shocks first before jumping to conclusions.. Anyone else had similar experince with blown shocks? Or if thats what it even is...

Blown struts can definetly cause this feeling. Does the rear end bounce when you press down on it?

yeah i tried that.. Like i start getting it bouncin by pressin down like 3-4 times then let go, And it continues to bounce maybe 2 more times.. I figured i needed new struts but didnt think they would make that drasatic of a change..

Struts can sometimes be hard to diagnose as there are 3 others still damping the car when you push on the one. You said one minute it was fine and then everything changed. That doesn't sound like a strut slowing going out though; more like something snapped or came loose. Maybe a strut knuckle bolt, tie rod, ball joint, control arm bushing, etc. Check all those first, then inspect front struts for leakage, then finally pull the fronts off and test by hand?

Loose rear end could also be caused by a worn out Panhard (sp?) rod that connects the rear multilink beam to the body of the car. Ive driven alot of 4th gens which have this problem, not many people seem to wanna fix it- bout 200 bux in parts last time I checked.

I would check your struts, chances are they are blown if you have anywhere above 80K miles.

I also think its the struts.. 1. being that it has 125k miles on it 2. being my dumbass went cheap when i did the drop and stayed on stock struts.. I knew it would be a matter of time before They would go.. But was hoping to have the money for the illuminas by that time which i dont

Mike, you're saying one could replace just bushings in the rear beam? Like the 2 at each end of the lateral link, and one or two in the control rod?

Just found there's 2 part #'s for the control rod a) 95-96 and '97'99 GXE/GLE, and b) '97-99 SE. Wondering if the SE bushings are stiffer/larger or what? It looks like the lateral link itself is orderable but not it's end bushings
