Opinions on new Solmia caliper covers?

Hey guys I've seen the banner for this website on the .org the past few days and I finally clicked on it...What do you think of these? Apparently install is easy and you only need to remove the front wheels it says so somehow you put them on the rear without removing the wheels I guess? Here is the description...

Link ---> http://www.solmia.com/page_2.htm

Introducing new ECaliper !

Do not paint your caliper anymore !

We developped polished stainless steel caliper cover that holds with powerful neodynium magnet (40lbs holding force). To avoid noise, there is a heat resistant silicone vibration damper between cover and OEM parts.

All models have been tested at least 1 year on many cars in very
harsh conditions (salt, sand, snow, etc.).

Totally corrosion resistant for more time than the life of your car.

Only 30 minutes installation ( you'll need to remove front wheels only).

Pictures:

Now, I would never in a million years spend $189 on them which is what they cost but I wanted to see what people thought about them...I guess they look okay?

I painted mine just black, so they wouldn't look so dirty. But that cost me a total of about 2 bucks. Spending any more than that to make your brakes look better....

For 189$ euhm... if your all about look that's look 10 time better than the red or yellow stock painted caliper ( no offense to anyone here ) but personally I would save that money and buy a BB kit.

I'm just joking-teasing, red or yellow I could careless but to each his own. I should have specified that any color on top of the rusty caliper without good preparation, will look like shiat after couple of weeks.

I agree the price is outragous. You can never go wrong with black. Just don't understand why people are so quick to call things rice when I've see some outlandish stuff people do to there cars on the org.........

Hmmm, $6 for the stick on decals vs $189 for these...

Maybe the magnets attract brake pad dust?

Rice comes from:

Polished stainless steel caliper cover that look like a dual pistons brake system
I hope they also sell "V8" badges for the Max.

when I saw that I actually thought it was a good idea because even if we upgrade our brakes to 300zx brakes with 13in rotors they still wont look as high performance as they perform so I thought a caliper cover could be a good idea. I think those caliper covers look like crap and they are stupidly expensive (does this company know their selling magnets??) so I went on ebay and there are quite a few caliper covers that looked VERY nice. If they made the brembo ones for our cars. I would probably get it. Imagine how nice it would look to have the 13in cobra rotors with some 18s or 19s and brembo logo behind them.

I dont think its rice AT all as long as you've done brake upgrades. If you put them on stock brakes... yeah stupid.. but still not rice in my opinion. And anyone who buys them at that price should be shot. Again does this company know they're selling magnets?

haha I just sent them an email saying this

You do know you are selling glorified magnets right?

so how in the hell can you possibly expect 190$ for them?

They dont even look good.. most of the ebay caliper cover look better

How bout like 30$ or 40$ for them and then I think it MAY be a fair price.

Lets see how they respond if at all

Well, that was constructive. I guess you have no idea how R&D factors into price.

I do but most decent business folks would have ditched that R&D project long before it got off the ground if they found out it would take charging that kind of money to recoupe the losses from the R&D.

Its silly. To be honest I even find it somewhat insulting as a consumer

they replied already

they said

Hi !

I really appreciate the evaluation your did about this product.
We ordered every other products that we found on the
market for observations and evaluation.

The caliper covers available on Ebay are very thick
and, most of time, needs mods to be fitted.
Also, those products are universal and don't hide
all the caliper. Silicone glue need 10 hours to dry (secure holding).

Some peoples don't want to have caliper covers that
look like racing ones but just improve look of standard style.

Regards !

well at least they are really friendly. Haha or should I say really good at biting their lip. I woulda wanted to tell me off if I were them, but hey its true the price for these things is friggen stupid. If Matt Blehm wanted some extra business he could create a product just as good if not better for like a 6th the price.

haha I thought the same exact thing!!! AAAAaaaa...little bit overpriced maybe? hehe
I thought that price was covering all four, front and rear ones, but then I was wrong it was the fronts only!! $189... what are they thinking... I wouldn't even buy them for half the price!!!
Cool product though!!

The price is just insane. If I ever see those on a car I'm going to try to sell the owner some swamp land in Florida at a great price. Save that $189 (or $378 if you do front and rear) and put that money towards a brake upgrade and not something that "looks like a four piston caliper".

I do not think that they look that bad and the price is a little lower.
Pay To: Solmia inc.
Payment For: Nissan Maxima 2002-2003
Amount: $119.99 USD
Shipping & Handling: $19.99 USD
Total Amount: $139.98 USD

Still way to expensive for my taste.

Wow, I actually think they look great. They are pricey however, I also think the rear window spoiler is on the expensive side. Anyway I guess it all boils down to taste. If I had skills like Metal Maxima I would make some better looking ones but since I don't this is a cool alternative. I place these number 5 on my Mod list.

I bought mine from xenonmods.com. You can probably e-mail them and have them cut some Nissan ones for you.
