SES light on - Pulled code P0226 Pedal Position Sensor - Assistance?
SES light on - Pulled code P0226 Pedal Position Sensor - Assistance?
After lunch today, I started the car and my SES came on. I could not accelerate the car as if it went into limp mode or something. I could press the pedal to the floor and the RPM's would rise slower than a YUGO at WOT.
I attempted to reset the ECU 5 times with no success, but on the 5th try, I was able to acclerate normally. Drove straight to AutoZone and had them pull the codes. The print out pulled a code
P0226 TPS/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch.
Any assistance on this would be great. I searched the site and got nothing but the actual SES code listings. The DTC listing showed a similiar description of
P0226 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Range / Performance Problem
Is this a TPS issue or do I just need to reset the ECU, Accelerator Pedal Release, and Throttle Valve using the procedures I found on here?
I recall last year at the Germain Nissan Meet (Columbus, OH) there was a guy with a modified blue 350Z that had this happen to him when he was "drifting" in the lot. He disconnected his battery for 10 mins then reconnect and his car ran fine, but I think he still had a SES light on.

I've never seen it, but here's a quote from the FSM:
The accelerator pedal position sensor is installed on the upper end
of the accelerator pedal assembly. The sensor detects the accelerator
position and sends a signal to the ECM.
Accelerator pedal position sensor has two sensors. These sensors
are a kind of potentiometers which transform the accelerator pedal
position into output voltage, and emit the voltage signal to the ECM.
In addition, these sensors detect the opening and closing speed of
the accelerator pedal and feed the voltage signals to the ECM. The
ECM judges the current opening angle of the accelerator pedal
from these signals and controls the throttle control motor based on
these signals.
Idle position of the accelerator pedal is determined by the ECM
receiving the signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor. The
ECM uses this signal for the engine operation such as fuel cut.

Thank you! - I have the FSM electronically, but have not unzipped it yet to view.
I am going to check and make sure the pedal stopper is the newer version. Even though the DTC is different for that, it sounds like it caused the same effect. Then I'll see if either of the sensor connections are loose.

For those who might get this code, the dealer had no ideas. Stated they have no record of a Maxima with this code. This afternoon at lunchtime I was able to reset the ECU, but the light stayed on. Then after work the SES light went away.
Anyhow, I still need to check the connections to the 2 sensors on the accelerator pedal to make sure they did not come loose aren't cracked.

POST FROM THE DEAD!
Same damn thing happened to me this afternoon. 4.5 years after the first incident.
Disconnected battery for 15 mins, went back out and damn thing started just fine.
WTH?
