02 SE with no HID and no fogs?

I just recently bought my 02 SE and I knew when i got it that it had been in a light front end collision. The repair work is very good, there was no structural damage. The gaps are good, no visible evidence. You can see only one part of the radiator support that was bent a little and was put back in shape. BUT...... I thought it was strange that the car didnt have foglights. I figured no big deal, i can always get some later.
sooooo.........
Do all SE's come with foglights? Another question is do ALL 02 SE's come with HID lights standard? Im trying to figure out if maybe what it is was that whoever fixed the car was super cheap. Im pretty pissed now that i see all these members cars on here with HIDs.

All SEs came with fogs, GXEs did not. All 02s came with standard HIDs, GXEs included. They may have went cheap for just the money aspect or may have went with standard lights since the HIDs in these cars are notoriously prone to theft. At least that's what I have read in the literature available.

Probably charged the insurance company for the HIDs and went cheap. There is a BIG price difference.

I would take it back to wherever you bought it and tell them you want the OEM lights, since they gave you the 00-01 non-HID lights...

Did you get a carfax? That sucks man because all 02-03 came standard with hid's. Post up pics I want to see if they gave you the 00-01 headlights and if there is anything else we can notice.

Looks like you got screwed twice. If you bought the car as is, there may not be much you can do about it. Good luck.

When did you buy the car? Does the state of GA have a cooling off period?

yeah i definitely got screwed on the headlights!!!... the foglights im not so worried about. I bought the car from a private seller and i bought it with cash. I did get a real good deal however. The car has only 43k on it and is in excellent condition inside and out. Good paint, brand new ZR rated tires, perfect interior. I got the guy down to $12,500. Ill see if i can get some pictures. If only I had known that they all come with HIDs! now i wonder what i should do to get some. I might have to do what all you 00-01 guys are doing and go aftermarket. I cant afford $1300!

Anyone have any for sale that will fit my car? or know where to get some? I would like OEM or some aftermarket that fits well/looks clean would be great too.

First thing post some pics of the front end so we can tell you exactly what you have.

Second, call Dave Burnett (sp?) and get a price for OEM fogs. (888) 254 - 6060. I think that is his correct #.

Since you bought a SE and thought that you were receiving everything that came on a SE but didn't; I would try to get the seller to purchase and install the fogs and HIDs.

Get the HIDs off eBay, they're always a few on there, and you could prolly get them for $300-400 if you try. Before I got my 02, I was looking at a 2000 and I knew I wanted the OEM HIDs. I watched a lot of auctions and the lights usually for for under $200, sometimes with ballasts and bulbs. If you're worried about buying stolen ones, ask the seller where they got them and why they're selling, and if you don't like what they say, keep waiting and you will find one. I woud get OEM ones, but there are a pair of depots on there for like $600. Same thing with the fogs, check eBay.

Other than for moral reasons, is there any other reason not to buy if they are stolen? and how would i know or be able to find out anyway?

By the way thank you for your advice everyone. I am worried about the wiring too, now that ive really looked at it.... someone rigged up the wiring for the 00-01 headlights pretty crappy. I just realized that the high beams dont even work. THIS SUCKS

PS Has anyone done aftermarket foglights on a 02-03?

Ask to see detailed pics of the lights. If they are stolen, the plastic tabs will usually be broken off.

That's a very good way to tell but I've seen people who take them off break them, too. Can you tell the difference between lights the people take out of salvages, their own cars, etc. and just break them doing it vs. the stolen ones? I've wondered this many times and is the primary reason why I've not bought a set to toy around with.

well apparently in the atlanta area that was a good price. most of the 02-03 with less than 50k on them were in the area of $14k to $16k. Like i said it took a month to find this car. It is below book value as it only has 43k miles and is in excellent condition inside and out. This little headlight/foglight issue is a b**** however. But the fogs should be about $100 for OEM and the headlights well.... maybe less than $500 if i ebay some possibly stolen ones ugh.

About the fogs, im am interested in those aftermarket lights but concerned about wiring them up, seems like it will be difficult. How to know what wire is what you know.

no i didnt realize that i had 01 headlights....therefore i DO feel ripped off! I didnt know that all 02 maximas had those different lights. Now that i do, the difference is night and day. Every time i see a 02-03 on the road im pissed.
Guess i shoulda got on this site BEFORE i bought the car, not after.

Apparently im going to have to buy harnesses as well in order to do the headlights. You guys should see the BS wiring job that is done to get the 01 headlights in there. I cant believe i didnt notice when i was looking the car over. guess i was too busy looking for signs of damage repairs on the body(which are minimal).

This site may be of use to you. You can download the FSM for your Maxima from here. It may help you re-wire your headlight and foglight.

http://phatg20.net/modules.php?name=...ownload&cid=65

I assume you found the headlights and fogs on ebay? If not just do a search under 02 Maxima in eBay. The seller who has the OEM headlights can be found on page 6 of teh search. If you scroll back from there, you will also find fog ligts for your max.

Good luck.

u know what, i was excited about my car having the HIDs also but now i am like , eeeh. u dont get to see them, u r driving. u might like the blue shade though. i say go with cool blue bulbs for now. see if u like it.
see if u can find the cool light greenish color (like the caribbean waters).

one more thing, HIDs have certain number of hours that they last for, so if u buy used from ebay, they might die on u anyday. well thats something to consider.

I have mixed feelings about the fogs, or "driving lights" if you will. If you're interested in seeing the road to a max of maybe 5 feet infront of the car, then they're great. Other than that, they're strictly an appearance item....

Since both of mine now have cracked lenses from rocks, I've been thnking about another way to use the space. I guess those who were extremely aggresive drivers or spent time on a road course would maybe throw in some brake cooling ducts.

I've also heard that some use the empty fog bays to duct cold air into their CAI
