MAF dies 655 miles away from home!

Stuck in Ohio and my MAF dies after I try to show off to my friends and do a little burn out. Car cut off after 1 second of burning and car starts but cuts off after a few seconds. Worrying its low gas cause my light was on for a while, we get gas and car finally starts after a few more starts. Car doesnt cut off but doesnt rev past 2500 rpm plus it sputters if i put more than half throttle. I'm about to get a new one and they said some reprogamming bs is needed. I read through threads and i know it probably optimizes my gas and power but just wondering if i just replace MAF will my gas mileage be ok? And is there a cheaper way to reprogram cause I'm not about to spend mad dough to just reprogram.

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES THIS happens on my vacation?! the last day before I decide to go back

yea bro thats the maf sensor, mine has gone out twice. all you have to do is reset the ecu, and do the idle air relearning procedure.

Actually, if you want to just wing-it and wait till u get home to buy a new MAF, then just take it off and spray some throttle body cleaner on your MAF. Really hose that mother down and let it dry before you hook it back up. I have been doing this for 6-7 months on my maxima to get by(I know its pathetic, but I'm a broke college kid). PS- just take off the whole housing that the sensor is in and spay the cleaner though the wire mesh(use the straw that comes with the can). Also, believe it or not, but a MAF was $100 cheaper at the dealership than anywhere else I called, even used ones! Only $115. But the cleaner is only $2.50, you make the call. PSS- DONT TOUCH THE SENSOR WITH ANYTHING SOLID, YOU WILL F... IT UP! good luck!!

yep, classic signs of when the MAF totally dies. that sucks though, almost as bad when i got a bhg in my a32 when i was on vacation in oregon which is about 600 miles away from home. the car was pinging and smoking like crazy got to a point were i could barely accelerate.

lol, u guys are funny, yea u know i'm poor so i had to go to autozone and get a final test before i start spending money. I got the new maf for 111 after tax, hooked it up in 5 minutes and car works again but i'm not getting the pull i once had. Maybe cause of weight, maybe cause the ecu needs to be reset, i dont know but tomorrow morning i'll stop by autozone and get this badboy reset before i take the trip. Problem solved though, cant wait to b home, dag and Nets lost too. Thanks guys for your feedback.

yea i gotta clean my throttle body too. I left my battery unplugged before entering work and plugged it back in when i got out (4 hours later) and voila, car runs better than it ever has AND has best response it has had since owning the car. Feels like a performance mod in itself even though its just bringing back power. I'm happy with results.

Oh and autozone's across the world are being extra g@y. They wont reset my ecu for me. Its against the law now. Its not like taking the bulb out. If the car has a problem, the light will come back on within a few hours tops which still puts you in distance to return or whoop some @$$

Hey MaximaGT-R,
In retrospect, I think that meccanoble's MAF might be too far gone. The cleaner works best for when your car is dieing at idle or when you shift outa gear at a light senarios. Its not aways the answer but it never hurts to try and could possibly get you out of a tight spot. I know that it most certainally delayed my problem. Brake part cleaner should work too.

Hey, where did you get that MAF sensor for $103? I checked autozone and it was $299 today.
